Flat and boring without a hare retrieving dog on most fields around me,bit of flint in places and some rabbit burries go deep in the sandy ground.Mostly largish crop fields with ditches with hedgerows, some good commons about and good bits of woodland to.Plenty of shoots local to me and due to them not many fox's on my patch.

I have mine living indoors as it is a worry, hopefully the guarding skills that the acd has will carry over to my pup and prevent her or the others from ever going anywhere.Something i will be encouraging for sure and may even do some man work with her,had a couple go over the years and gutting isn't the word.

A Minshaw lurcher is a line bred strain of lurcher started by a chap called Vic Minshaw, mostly bred for lamping and this strain/line of lurchers has proved they can do the business and can fill a bag with game.A minshaw saluki will be a cross.

Thanks for the positive reply's and the good wishes for the baby(Archie)and mum.Whin i'll do my best with them and in the future we'll have the craic on some stuff with one for sure.

He is getting a light saddle on him like his dam so may look a bit lighter mate,i've allways liked that bitch from day one and think she'll turn out ok.They do have a good bit of substance about them don't they? and every time i look at them they look even better.

Quite surprised me to see you put a acd up but having just reared a litter of this cross i'm surprised more haven't been used to produce lurchers, the breed certainly opened my eyes to what they can do and i'll go as far as better than a collie in many ways.I allways thought there would have been more gundog types used as they do have a lot to offer, pointers gwp x does him allright and works well from what i've seen of it on threads.

:11: he is a good looking boy mate for sure(the dog not you!),threw there dummy for a couple of times then swopped it for the rabbit and they didn't even flinch, straight back with it and he puts it in my lap every time and lets go straight away,my bitch is a bit harder mouthed with them.E-mail sent as well mate.

Last year i had a list of about 6 dogs, all pure bred and pta redg'd and i didn't really look any further,i'm not ruling out using an outcross dog but do have a couple of pure proven earth dogs that i am more tham happy to use to produce what i'm after.I only need one to do the deed mind and this dog has been used over my bitches litter sister and produced some nice pups, but then as long as the pups i produce work who cares what they look like,to many folks breeding for looks in this breed and if i can't use a proven earth dog then i'll not breed from her.

My bitch has a good dose of Coalville Billy's blood in her,as well as Cerbi's(grandsire both sides) and some calva blood as well. The important thing and her work record seems to prove this is that she was bred worker to worker and both parents were(sire died)/are proven earth dogs. When the time comes to produce a litter from her a proven earth working plummer will be used over her and yes i have found a few sutable studs. This breed does need more earth working dogs in it's ranks before the rest of the working terrier world gives it the credit it deserves.

Don't know about any of the other but the acd x greyhound mating i do know about, the acd was used to produce a lurcher pup because she had shown us how good a base breed the acd would be to produce a lurcher,a breed with drive, bone, good feet, brains, stamina, etc in fact it has much more to offer than using a border or beadie collie or most other breeds to produce a lurcher that can work all types of ground, quarry and handle a knock. The greyhound was added for a bit of pace as what we wanted was a pacey acd and not a speed machine lurcher,we asked around and on here for advise before any litter w

I knew a old traveller fellow(Ben Pepper)in Market Harbrough who had one on a chain for nigh on 11 years(thats what he said, but it was a very old fox indeed),the vet came out and trimmed it's nails and coat(it got really thick around it's neck)a couple of times a year.It was dug as a cub and reared by his misses, they let it go when it was older but just hung around the site driving the dogs mad so they put it back on a chain. It looked happy enough but only he could go near it,it arched it's back and hissed and spat like a cat at anyone else who tried to go near. Can be done but i wouldn't ever

Tis a grand bit of country mate for sure, the dogs are looking well and the pup is growing into a strong looking thing.

A good question mate and one more folks should ask themselves before getting a dog themselves, first thing is the type of work you will have for your dog and the time left alone is a collie the right sort of dog?.A good lurcher would cover your needs and would certainly be a fit animal with you,but one that would spend a day lying around also(most i've known won't refuse a comfy sofa). Also mate why they getting rid of the collie and how old is it?,it may be to highly strung for it's owners so being no good for you it being left on it's own, good to see someone thinking correctly about getting a

question about time between feeding and running
fireman replied to spiderpig's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
As above,a bit a little while before you go out a dogs digestion system the same as any meat eater is fast and it doesn't have food sat for hours in it's stomach. -
Freedom of honest truthful speach,i was called a grass on the other site and couldn't respond.I have also recieved threats towards myself and death threats towards my dogs, nusance phone calls and all because i spoke out and told the truth which any decent breeder would have done in the first place if they were so into it for the breed. If the truth hurts some folks then so be it but how would you feel if you bred your dogs and threw a litter of cleft palated pups and a breeder before you knew there was a chance of this?,gutted thats how i'd feel for sure and this may happen to some pup owners i
