  1. I think I'll go to the local hunt meet.

  3. It's even more dumb to tell a reloading novice to ignore advice that is from well estabished sources.
  4. So why don't you tell SAAMI your opinion? As for warnings about using weapons of suitable calibre, it's on every box of cartridges I've ever bought.
  5. I've never had a S/A but I have the impression from others posts that the action of a 3.5" gun, unless it is adjustable, would not work with 2" cartridges.
  6. That just about sums up my thoughts. There is a lot of information/advice on the web. It's up to the us who we take notice of. Experience is an efficient tutor, fools choose experience. Far better to learn, if you can, from other peoples' experiences, but be careful with who you listen to.

  8. Sorted! I was told that Norma identify their primers so that reloads cannot be passed off as their factory loads.
  9. If the primers have "np" on them, they will be Norma factory loads, so should be OK.

  11. Cheers, Eric I was looking for replacement for my Advantage Wetlands jacket that I got form FieldandForces and was made by Wearite. I visited the Wearite shop, only to find that they no longer do that pattern and their current camo jackets don't look tough enough. American/Canadian stuff like Whitewater and Sportchief do not have a drip strip to stop water wicking up the inside. It's been suggested to me that they are made for cold, dry weather and not cold, wet weather.
  12. I remember once hitting a fox in the chest front-on with the .308 at about 50 yrds. The bullet didn't exit and when I picked it up by the tail, it was like picking up a plastic bag full of water. That was either with a 125grn Nosler ballistic tip or a 150grn Samson soft point.
  13. In England, if the land for the road was not bought by the highway authority, the boundary of the adjoining land is the centre of the road, so you are always on someone's property, especially if the land on both sides of the road belongs to the same person or entity. Provided you do not cause distress or hinderance to anybody using the highway, you can shoot from a road onto your land. We have shot loads of foxes from the roads through the estate I help out on.
  14. They should have Norma primers if they are factory loaded.
  15. Now that Advantage Wetlands cammo stuff doesn't seem to be available any more, did the MoD ever issue anything in desert cammo that was waterproof? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8422942.stm
  16. Not just France that prohibits military calibres, making .223, 30-06 and .308 unavailable for civilian use.
  17. The expression I have heard is 'War calibre' ie used in a war. Has the 6.5X55 been used in a 'war'? I had thought that the rule was to stop all the old wartime weapons and ammo being used uncontrolled. We had a stalker coming over some years ago. He was in charge of the police armoury/weapons store in the capital of a certain European country. He had got hold of a 7X57 Manlicher action but could not make use of it because it was a 'war' calibre. He took our keeper's BSA 7X57 back with him and it came back as a Manlicher with the same serial number as before but very little of the ori
  18. You may have got them from a 'Para', but who was he attached to? Special forces, I have always understood, can choose their own weapons. He may have done some sporting rifle shooting outside and chose to use a 6mm. It doesn't look like it would pierce armour, from the picture. Put a micrometer on all the dimensions before you put it in yur rifle!
  19. Is that because any calibre that has been used in a war is not allowed in some European countries? eg 7 x 57

Because the makers have found out how much people are prepared to pay for it. Barrel stretchers rule! You only want a few people in a club to fire at everything within 70 yrds and all the rest have to follow or give up.
  21. That's the range at which the bullet passes UP through the line of site. It will pass down through the line of site at about 140yrds(assuming MV of 3000fps). How high is your scope above the barrel?
  22. Not a clue on price, but I'm not going to phone them for you. You can do that yourself.
  23. I think you aught to get your head down and sleep off what ever you're on.
  24. Just wondering whether or not you dream a lot or just watch the wrong sort of movies. I fired a 12 pistol with a 3.5" barrel once and that kicked like hell.
