  4. When we were ratting the other day ,the farmer said to me that he had a fox checking out the chicken sheds every night and would i care to have a look for it .The weather lately has been a bit grim so as it was a light drizzle and windy tonight i decided on a look out on my own .Arrived at the farm in daylight as it had been seen at various times from dusk onwards .I chose to sit up on a stack of silage bales and to keep quiet as the foxes here are notoriously shy .As the last light went out the sky ,i saw a fox running down the far hedge ,about 150 yds away .A shout only made him run faste
  5. Good to see you might have a regular shooting partner there foxy .Hope to see some more posts from the pair of you
  6. In my experience ,as long as the shot size is not too small ie bigger than 4's then its all about range and target shape .Ill explain -Shots at a standing target shouldnt be long range ,under 30 yards for preference .The way the fox is stood makes a big difference to a clean kill or a wounded fox .I like a fox to be side on for a shotgun as its vital organs are on show .Squeak your fox in and when its at the required distance ,whistle softly .Charlie usually jumps sideways for a moment to take stock of things and this is the time to let him have it .Foxes that will not be stopped can be shot h
  7. Innoculations-The truth ,the whole truth and nothing but the truth . There still seems to be people who are willing to toy with the lives of their dogs by messing with jabs bought by post or giving them at the wrong age .Jabs offered for sale on the internet cannot be relyed upon to be what they claim to be or even in date .These jabs have a use by date and if used beyond that can adversely affect your dog ,being totally useless at the very least . Pups need the jabs shortly after weaning but not before .A 2 week break is needed between jabs to allow the pups immune system to cope with the f

  12. Run a small building firm ,well when i say small ,its just me really and other labour when i need it! .I work to live ,not live to work and get out as often as i can possibly get away .Money means f'all to me but good dogs and a straight shooting rifle are everything .Should never have walked away from the keepers job but thats life and another story

  18. We were asked to make ourselves available for a days ratting on a chicken farm near me .We have done this type of ratting before but never been there when they winch the organic shed onto new ground We turned up at 8 am ,expecting things to go according to plan but some bits were missing from the winching kit so the contactor had to go in search for these Eventually they got going at 1.30 ? Two big sheds were the target but i knew this was now impossible as we would be beaten by the light. The first shed was eventually winched forward and a few rats bolted as it moved .After they had moved it o
