Decided on a look out with my son to a small place i have .Farmer mentioned a litter of cubs so sat up to see what showed .Long and short was no show for a fox but i did glass a buck out on a meadow below us and as ive not had one from here yet i decided to take a look .A very nice buck with a young doe .Another buck in the same field too .This is usually the time of year when they get a bit recluse so to see two was a real bonus .Both sixes and not much in them to so the nearest buck was my chosen quarry . The stalk up to a shootable position was slow with my son looking on from a gateway

Birds of prey such as owls and kestrels prey on the rodents in the stuper stage before death .IMO people have relied on poisons too much in the past instead of good husbandry and traditional methods. The professionals are equally to blame .Turn up to a premises and straight away start poisoning instead of any other methods .A good clean up is what most premises want but no money where theres no rats .Not a dig just an observation. An infestation can be controlled without poison but most pros wouldnt entertain the thought as its very labour intensive . These so called super rats are a product of

Anybody serious about breeding and WORKING these dogs needs to get away from the name and think of work only. Not one person i know of that is successful at breeding a working line, is or was, concerned over colour or looks or club affiliation .To talk of not culling says it all to me as no doubt they will re-enter the gene pool down the line .Treat your stock as workers and not investments and no matter how small the gene pool and the proper use of outcrosses you will succeed .If a few of you are that concerned then get together to formulate a plan that dosnt involve colour or money .The stig -

Any outcross IMO should have at least one traceable line to what you are trying to improve otherwise its guess work and will take years to prove if it was successful or not .Personally i would say in your position i would keep folding back in UNLESS there are undesirable traits you need to breed out .The gene pool of WORKING Plummers cant be that big even if you had to start again .I would never look to a type that was originally used to create ie Lucas ,beagle ,Russell. The offspring would be far removed from your ideal .Work what you have ,cull what dosnt ,fold back in to a strong stud dog.Iv -

Stalking a few evenings last week with my son.Seeing a few but one thing or another meant nothing grassed until thursday evening .The venue is a small farm where the lie of the land allows for a good glass as soon as you pull in the yard .The fields rise to a banking then level off on a plateau but the deer generally stick to the slope.A buck and doe were grazing the uncut hay grass just below the skyline and a plan was made to stalk him .Wind was brisk so a clockwise stalk was in order that took us to within a field of them .A big gap in the hedge lead to where they were and a careful approac
