Probably just as much if not more a deterrent than an actual legit protection. As you say, ain't no way they would have even attempted a shot at someone in a moving vehicle with that many citizens around.

Again who knows, but it's a poor showing when a car can pass through isn't it. It should have been fully cordoned off with security stood at vehicle access points in place for police & the emergency services.

All speculation, neither you, I or anybody knows what's gone off. If he's been pissed up in the pub there's a chance that is motor was already parked up within the cordoned off area? Who knows, no good just taking wild stabs in the dark is it.
