  1. not that i give a shit what terriers you keep, everyone to there own i say. i just thought i'd add my dogs "walk the pavement" (they need walking aswell as working) and they live in the back yard because i dont live on "65,000 acre of permission" but i permit myself to work them where and when ever i want which does mean "poaching" and "sneaking about"but work is what they do and plenty of it. it should'nt be a matter of where you keep em' more like how you keep em
  2. thats an exellent acheivement Royston2 .i always start the season with the intention of recording my own tallys but a quarter of the way through i just get side tracked and forget about writing it down, but i always take photos of everything i catch,so over the years i have filled a few albums which i never get bored of looking through, i dont think i have ever come close to that amount of deer in a season or even 2 with a single dog but i probably dont run half as many deer as i do foxes, i just love running foxes and if the situation comes (which it some times does) i will drive past a herd
  3. i agree blood and scars do show a lot more on white dogs as they do on all light coloured dogs and thats why i carry stuff to clean my dogs after they've made a kill. the bleeding usually stops pretty quick and wound powder is great for helping to dry and hide cuts on white dogs simply because its white, it doesnt disguise so well on a dark coloured dog. scars cannot be helped when working dogs but once healed they could of accured anytime for various reasons if people start asking questions, but in this country people are to quick to jump to conclusions anyway and that is why hunting has got
  4. i think anybody with normal eyesight could spot a lurcher at a good distance what ever colour it was, i know i could.outlines, shapes, and movement register imediatley with anyone and if someone is watching or looking for someone with a dog the chances are they will spot what they are looking for anyhow. how often do we spot deer, hares foxes etc at great distances ? all of which are dark in colour. i think it could be a slight disadvantage (if you dont want to be seen) having a white dog when out at night, but as i said earlier if your out with the lurcher at night your probably lamping and
  5. if you were poaching at night i think a 1000,000 cp lamp shining field to field would be more noticeable than a white lurcher p.s when coursing on the stubbles would you only take a fawn dog i think not ability definately comes first in my eyes

    4x4 pickups

the uni-mog jokng aside i would say the hi-lux is the better of the 3 you mentioned, off road but the Navara and L200 look better, imo none of them are that good off road because there so light on the back end, a land rover will piss all over any of the 3 off road but if you want something that looks well and is good off road get a trooper if it had to be a pickup i'd go for the hi-lux (2.4 uk 2.8 imports)
  8. nice one mate, exercising the dogs and getting a bit of meat at the same time can't be bad
  9. i don't the illegal imigrants down at the local car wash sort that out they've never worked so hard for the tenner :11:
  10. i have a pure white white lurcher and i've took plenty of tackle with him, lamping and daytime and as grubygrafter said scent, sound and movement is probably the main reason we sometimes get detected by the quarry rather than the colour of the dog. the only problem i have with my dog being white is the blood showing on his coat after a kill, now i carry a couple of gallon of water in the car and some clean cloths or baby wipes just incase
  11. good post boots and nice bitch hows she bred mate ?
  12. maybe a good choice for an allrounder ? but if 90% of the work was foxes would you choose the same cross ? as i've said before i run mainly foxes and deer and after having virtually every cross available i've found bull crosses the most suitable for me. now if i were mainly rabbiting or hare coursing my choice of dog would definately be different. imo select a dog that is suitable for your needs not what everyone else is using
  13. i take full advantage of the "right to roam" :11:
  14. we were out today and put 4 out of cover but we did'nt get anything to ground although it was absolutely freezing p.s you know how extensive my permission is
  15. the dogs 18 months old and the bitch is coming up 2 years old
  16. cheers mate, i think the vixen looks a lot bigger with it been nearer to the camera than the terriers but it was still a very good sized vixen
  17. my mate phoned me today after putting a fox to ground i took both my russels. i knew the earth well which is only a pulled out single hole rabbit set about 3 ft deep and only about 8 ft in length (i've ferreted it plenty of times). i decided to enter the younger russel jack as he's only had a couple of piss easy digs so far and this one was'nt going to be any hassle. as soon as he entered he made contact and all that could be heard was chomping not a whine, bark nothing, i thought he had the arse end, any way the box read 3-4 ft so we started digging which was nice and easy, then about 1/2
  18. well done hbg looks like you had a good day, nice dogs aswell
  19. cracking bull x mate, well done
  20. well done mate i have'nt been out for a bit myself because i can't be arsed putting the new clutch in the motor in this weather
  21. i've owned both bull cross and bedlington cross that could kill foxes and rabbits, the bedlington was one of the best dogs i've owned as an allrounder but it was'nt in the same league as the bull crosses when it came to foxes or deer even. now all my lurchers have bull in them as there imo the best type of lurcher for my job. and if i decide to have a night on the rabbits i know i can knock a good few out without any problems. these rabbits were taken on the lamp with my dog billy a second generation half cross which weighs just under lb. p.s the bull cross in the above pic does'nt lo
  22. nice bitch mate, looks like she's gonna be a strong'un
