  1. he's a collie/greyhound x bull/greyhound mate
  2. something with speed and stamina, a saluki greyhound maybe
  3. if i knew the bitch was 100% i would, but only if i needed a pup. at the moment i have a young dog pup on so i don't really need another just yet, however this year i will be getting a bitch pup and hopefully then i'll be able to breed my own
  4. no mate i don't have a bitch, only dogs but i'm hoping to get a bitch pup this year and if it makes the grade i'll be breeding it to my oldest dog tyke becuse he will be well past his best by this time and i've always wanted a pup from him
  5. just found this, http://www.shootingbids.com/ should be o.k when it gets going
  6. i would rather get a couple of foxes than ten deer, and foxes are what i go out for, however if theres a deer there i'll run it, as i'm not one to luck a gift horse in the mouth, as long as the meat is not left and is put to good use i don't see the problem. i don't run hares on the lamp or day and i might only run rabbits the first couple of weeks into the season just to sharpen the dogs up, the dogs i keep are big heavy bull bred dogs so it still pleases me when they make contact with deer, they can still drop the odd daytime roe, but they are'nt what i would call deer dogs by any means. i
  7. i have never done much hare coursing as i prefer a fox to anything, but the lad i do most of my hunting with as an exellent saluki/greyhound bitch that will have killed hundreds of hares in her life, as he runs her regular during the winter, she's 7 now but when she was in her prime she was killing 2/3 hares most mornings out with the most being 6 in a morning, now when we take this bitch for a day on the deer the total is very different and she only gets about 1 in every 5 she runs, i remember a couple of year ago when we were coursing every saturday morning around hornsea there were always a
  8. somebody has to keep the numbers down
  9. with one lurcher the hardest would be the big deer, the problem been the size weight and power, a lurcher would be stuggleing to stop one in full flight and bring it to the ground. if i had had to pick one for speed and running ability alone i would say the roe, but i have'nt had much experience with the 2 smallest species of deer;)
  10. good stuff mate, i bet slim was sweating after that :11:
  11. with the motor it does'nt matter how lamp shy they are, or how many times they have been squeeked in and missed, 90% of the time your gonna get a run, and although the motors used to get the dog as near as possible to the fox before he's released the dog still has to make up the ground that the fox has covered while the car is slowed right down or even stopped, and he still has to catch the fox and kill it. the running side of it may be slightly easier for them but these dogs get properly tested as there gonna get a lot more runs and a lot more foxes (besides other quarry), usually one after
  12. out again last night, Billy with another good sized dog fox
  13. we just went local, as most of the land is far to wet to drive, Tyke missed a fox which managed to get into a wood but we got a good dog fox with my mates collie/greyhound
  14. :11: a "small profit" you cheeky c**t you have'nt even paid me yet:11: :11: even a winch is no use most of the time, as theres never anything to winch from in open land, i think i'll have to get one of those high lift landrover jacks
  15. i think any type of terrier would be suitable for bushing but one of the best dogs i've seen in cover was a springer spaniel
  16. i've tried most of the 4x4 motors, and to be honest they don't come near the subaru for the style of lamping i do, the motor has to be very quick and able to turn at speed without rolling etc, it has to have plenty of room and be easy to get the dog straight out, every farmer/keeper in the country has landrovers, hi lux's etc so having a motor that can leave them for dead is a big plus aswell. the "family wagons" have served we well over the years so i won't be changing them for anything
  17. of course it was on my exsclusive permission with stretches the full length of the country, subaru's are ok until they bottom out then your done for but there the best motor by far for my job
  18. we did'nt get anything else, just the fox i only wanted to observe the fallow as i'm fascinated how fast they can run at times and how powerfull they are  , i might have to change my screen name to "unlucky"
  19. the subaru home eventually
  20. we were out again last night, started off a bit quiet, then Tyke caught a big dog fox which gave him plenty until he got a good throat hold, are luck had changed or so we thought, then we spotted a nice herd of fallow in a big stubble so off we went flat out accross the field (just to have a look of course  ) but they were still in the next field, so we found the entrance to it and in we went about 10 yard into the field the subaru stopped dead, it was bogged to the axels (the only soft spot in the area and we were in it ) any way to cut a long story short we did'nt get the car out f

  22. i'm ozzy osbourne :11: :11:
  23. the pup came from a friend of a friend, i've been in touch with the man that bred him today and he's told me the exact breeding of the pup which is a little different from what i was told at first, i'm still very happy with this pup and cant believe how fast he's growing. Storm: The dam is a fellhound collie greyhound and the sire is wheaton bull greyound (out of jason powells Arthur) both parents are single handed fox dogs
