  1. He looks great Jen Be very interested to hear if he does come on point. You can use any command you want to cast him off, I use "gone away". The idea being that once he has has a flush & it's missed then I work him on with gone away.
  2. Using a good trainer will make huge differences to you if it's your 1st dog. Try Toonarmy spaniels for your area (ish)
  3. A lot of cockers a very soft these days so you need to be gentle with them. I've just started a training programme with my young pup & she would collapse if I bollocked her. so it's a case of gently putting her right EVERY time she does wrong. One of the hardest thinks to do is to get a cocker to sit!!!!!!
  4. It might only be beating & picking up but it's still a lot learn. Best advice is get yourself a book or DVD. Joe Irvings book is good for spaniels. If you can afford to go to a trainer then a good investment. Enjoy the training
  5. Perhaps it would wind people up less if it wasn't someone's 1st post though!!!!
  6. Jim If you are allowing an already confident dog to run about chasing rabbits & pheasants and then praising it for doing so then you are in real danger of creating problems for yourself. As this dog is already hunting well & is so confident I suggest you stop free hunting straight away & get some obedience into it Otherwise you could spend hours chasing after it in the future ( i've been there........it's knackering!!)
  7. Jim You're asking a lot from such a young cocker. I have 3 cockers & wouldn't ever expect that much from any of them at that age How confident a dog is it ? Is is not to sure of it's self ?

  11. The trainer has just won the cocker FT Championship
  12. I've got a TR one, no probs with it but they are bloody horrible things to use. Hardly bother these days as I'm only working spaniels so distance not an issue.

  14. Fieldfare, can you tell me what your posts have added to the debate about this "new breed" ? Or are you just wasting all our time!
  15. Go and get yourself a training book or two & or some DVD's. Plenty on Ebay. As Holland says bond with the pup. Who is going to be doing the training you or your dad? Most of all enjoy the pup, have fun & good luck
  16. Simply................Superb I've got the dog cabins, runs & day beds & the quality is excellent. Expensive but great customer service & nice people. If you pop in in person you'll get a nice brew. whats the maintence free cabins like mate? Brilliant but pricey...get what you pay for I suppose. They stand up to anything, are cool in summer & warm in winter. They don't leak & are totally windproof (yes like an idiot I did climb inside to check!!!) They have option of running in electrics which I did but have never really had to put the heater on. They co

  23. Hilly Think your spot on there that's why I'll be giving you a call shortly to sort out some days
  24. To get any interest from the gundog world you will need to have had your Lab Hip & Elbow scored at the very least. Most stud dogs are now DNA profiled as well. There are a lot of top FTCH stud dogs out there but if people see you out working your dog you might get some interest. You will need to know the pedigree first though. Good Luck
