  1. How are you getting your hands on a professional use only product? DRAT (active ingredient Chlorophacinone) is a first generation anti-coagulant bait. It has a 'cumulative' action, which means that it gradually builds up in the rodent's system. All anti-coagulants have the same basic action; they replace the enzyme in the blood which causes it to clot (or 'coagulate'), gradually, the blood vessels in the body burst, usually starting with the finest, which are in the brain. That action causes them to feel cold and sleepy. In most cases, they die in their sleep (in their burrows) s
  2. Properly positioned rodenticide (preferably by a trained and qualified professional)poses little or no risk to either children or pets. You stand very little hope of complete eradication using traps alone, and as this is a situation where the rats are living in close proximity to human habitation, sport should take second place to good, sound common sense. Whenever I read posts like this I worry. As our old friend Ditchy used to tell everyone, "don't feck about when its the health of your family and pets at risk; get in a pro" The cold hard facts are that the rats pose a really signi
  3. They should be using Certis Biopren stations, or something similar. As Joe suggests, get a picture so that we can check it out.....

    rabbit lure

After removing any remaining flesh, rub salt in every day.
  5. Yep, everwhere! Go back and read the posts - if it is Pharoah ants, any direct treatments will cause the colony to 'bud' ie. set up lots of smaller satelite colonies - thereby making the problem much, much worse. Get a pro in to properly ID the problem first, then follow the advice given. DO NOT attempt any sort of DIY treatment with this type of pest!
  6. Why would anyone want to catch pheasants at the begining of the season?
  7. Well, it's TomTom for me. I've had one for a few years now, and it's changed my life. Driving is easier without the worry of stopping to look at maps every five minutes. I've now upgraded and got TT on my PDA which is even better, my old TT One has been relegated to the wife's car. Chalky, if you want to borrow one to try, let me know. ATB - Matt
  8. If it is Pharaoh ants, they won't be fumigating. The cure is a long term baiting programme - they workers take the bait back to the queens. Are they using 'trails' ? If so, it probably is. There are a number of other species which it could be, so I'd wait for a proper ID. Whatever you do, DO NOT attempt a treatment yourself, and make sure your neighbours don't either. Good luck, let us know the outcome.
  9. Loath as I am to do an identification over the www without so much as a dodgy picture, it sounds like it could be pharaohs ants - which is bad news. Whatever you do, DO NOT attempt to treat them yourself. They have multiple queens, and if the colony is threatened, they 'bud' off to form lots of smaller colonies, making the problem much, much worse. Call in some professionals, and get a proper ID before you do anything else.
  10. Devon & Somerset (massive following), Quantock, and Tiverton (Wildboys) all based around Exmoor (North Devon/West Somerset) NOT 'south east' lol. They all hunt red deer. The New Forest used to hunt Fallow. Yes, they are larger than foxhounds.
  11. That law does NOT state that it is an offence to release healthy rabbits.
  12. Firstly, although rabbits are not truely 'native' to the UK, they are not considered to be 'alien' in law. Those pests which are, include North American Mink and Grey Squirrels, but NOT the european rabbit. I am not aware of the W&C act prohibitting the release of healthy rabbits, but if you know the section, please quote it so that we can check it out.
  13. Not true. We've been into this lately. There is NO law which prohibits the release of healthy rabbits. If you think there is, please quote it chapter and verse.
  14. Get hold of a copy of Woodga's DVD. There is loads of good snaring ideas on there (including hoop snares). There is also lots of good advice from Snareman pinned to the top of this forum....

    CENSORED

I've just remembered why I don't bother going into chat anymore....... It's better than 'Eastenders' in here sometimes.........
  16. moi? You know me JB. I'm Mr Tolerant......
  17. I am serious about my vocation (pest control) yes. Following you about? Why, where else have I been near you? Perhaps people should read this (click here for a laugh) thread before they decide who the serious pest controllers are.........
  18. Your working with bats? Aren't we all? That still doesn't tell anyone why you are asking the question, or how you would deal with it... Or is just another one of 'those' threads????? Perhaps your super dooper rabbit killing sonic device is also going to work on mice?
  19. I'm surprised that someone who has allegedly written a book about pest control cannot tell us either the reason for the question, or how he would deal with the problem. But then, perhaps I'm not.....

    rabbit wipe out

So C'mon Joe! What ever happened to your new device? Or was it all a bit of 'Jackanory'
  21. every 12hrs is good practice I'm going to put the cat among the pigeons now........ There is no legal requirement (in England)to check spring traps every day unless they are set for rabbits. Best practice, and common sense, is to check any traps at least once in every 24 hours. My advice? For what its worth; check 'em at least once in every 24 hours. I used to have a 'morning walk' and an 'afternoon walk'.
  22. The Mk4 is designed for rats and other 'small vermin'. It will kill squirrels, but the Mk6 has more 'man' about it. What sort of place are you intending using them? Given your age and experience, I would advise some Mk4's to begin with. The real skill is in selecting sites and building permenant tunnels. Once you have a 'network' of tunnels, you should start introducing traps. The rail sets (as described by Little Lloyd below v )are also very sucessful, and can account for lots of squirrels. For rail sets, I'd recommend the Mk6, or a magnum though, as you are also likely to pic
