The crossing of the saluki and the greyhound was done for one reason and one reason only; to get as near the stamina of the saluki and as near the speed of the greyhound. Much the same as the non-ped whippet is the result of judicious breeding together of the whippet and the greyhound, to get the size of the whippet and the speed of the greyhound. I said years ago that maybe it was time for the coursing bred dog and the non-ped whippet to be recognised as breeds in their own right, after all, both their “pedigrees “ can be traced back many generations. Last coursing DVD I got was when I was bartering with Snowball at the Appleby Fair for a big mirror with a p***y scene in it. He wanted £120 for it but I got him down to £70, and he threw in the Beast DVD and a coffee mug with a black and white horse on it. Mind you, I used to nick a few DVD’s of a big, bald blokes stall when he wasn’t looking, at the dog shows ! LOL ! Cheers.

Somehow you remind me of my grandson; he called me last night to tell me about his exams. I asked if he passed them all, he said “of course”. I said he didn’t look very happy and his mum came on and said he was upset because he “only got a 97% average across the exams”. I said that was very good, but she said a boy in the school got 98% and my grandson was upset because he wasn’t the best” ! I asked him what he was going to do about it, he said “I will study more grandad,”. He will eventually learn that there’s always someone , somewhere who knows more than you !

Just got back. A pair of saplings from a non-ped whippet sire and greyhound dam were being schooled; Nice lookers, and a handy size, around 22” and 40 lb. Upgraded from hand timing to electronic timing; Even had a beddy whippet having a run up. Great way to spend an hour or two on a sunny Saturday morning. Cheers.

Yes, every one is welcome, you can have hand slips, runs out of traps ,timed runs, whatever, only £1 a run. Or you can have a time trial and enter the handicap, there’s handicaps for pedigree and non-ped whippets and one for lurcher racing. It would be best if you could come for an Open Race as there’s a lot more dogs and the fastest dogs in the country would be there for the scratch racing, but if you fancy an hour or two at our little club on a Saturday morning I’d meet you at my house , the tracks only a few minutes away.
