  1. Yeah mate; I've had "worker to worker"..got a great one in the kennel just now ! Also had pure breds, Non-Peds; in fact, just about all types of running dogs. My point is; you can get a good class of dog, if the BREEDING is right, it's parents don't HAVE to have been top class working dogs; although as I say; it's desirable ! Just look at Bruce; His sire is unknown, and his dam was a track dog, but he did the job, to say the least. Cheers.
  2. I've got a 1st cross Deer/Grey bitch, 29", 75lb. Her sire didn't work, but was from working stock; her dam was a brood bitch, didn't do a days work or run a race in her life, but was from the best breeding ! Yet this bitch has had a great 1st season; she has done everything I expected of her ! Don't believe all this nonsense about Lurchers MUST be bred from "workers" !! Yes, it's desirable, but there's plenty top class dogs bred from "non workers" !! Cheers.
  3. I think the people who come on here complaining and slagging shows off are the ones with "Issuses" LOL !! Who cares about shows ? If you enjoy them; go to them...If you don't enjoy them; don't go !! I's very simple !! Cheers.
  4. I would doubt that there are ANY Manchester Terriers with recent working blood in them, they've been ruined, like many other breeds, by the Kennel Club and the show people. If you want a terrier as a working dog, go for a Lakie, Fell, Patterdale, etc, or. if you can find a working bred one, go for a Bedlington... Any of them will be of far more use than a Manchester !! Cheers.
  5. If you hadn't cleaned your pens "for a week or two", you shouldn't be keeping dogs ! Fresh food and water every day, and if a dog gets the exercise it needs; it won't shit in it's run anyway !! I can't believe you actualy said you hadn't time to clean your pens "for a week or two" !! Cheers.
  6. Owned them and ran them out there in the Middle East. Different dogs; different land; and different quarry to what we run here in the UK. A fen dog might not shine out there, just as a Bedu dog probably wouldn't shine on the fens !! "Horses for courses", as they say !! Cheers.
  7. In the old days, shows were started by lads sitting around in pubs for something to do in the summer, they meant nowt in asmuch as how a dog worked ! Same as the racing; there was wee Beddy X's running against great big Deer X's, no muzzles, no "unders", no "overs", etc !! It was a bit of fun ! Now there are dogs bred specificaly for showing or racing;they never see quarry or even have a days mooch in case they break a nail or mess up their coat !! I give my dogs a solo run up at my local Whippet track, just to support the track, and give the dogs a sprint. I agree that some people are running
  8. The OP wasn't asking if Saluki X's were the "BEST" hare dogs, he asked if a dog "HAS" to have Saluki in it to catch a hare;... The answer is NO ! Cheers.
  9. We were catching hares with all types of crosses long before the Saluki got popular. Cheers.
  10. An a 29" Deerhound/GH is? No; and if you are refering to MY 29" Deer/Grey, she wasn't brought in to be an all rounder ! Cheers. I know theres a pic of your dog somewhere on this forum chartpolski, but im buggered if i can find it, so if you dont mind when you have time, pic please thank you Here you go : NOT an "allrounder" ! LOL ! And was never meant to be ! (Although she IS ran on everything and does OK !) ! Cheers.

  12. Can be good; but wouldn't be my choice as an "allrounder". Cheers.
  13. I wouldn't be to sure about a Non-Ped bringing the size down... there are some VERY big Non-Peds out there, and even the small ones have enough Greyhound in them to throw big'uns now and then !! I agree about the speed, though ! Cheers.
  14. How could she have taste; when she married TAM ??? lol !!! Cheers.
  15. you are the only one whineing about it Where have I whined about it ? I said fill it in with shite and post it ! Why have the b*****ds knocking on your door or taking you to court and fining you ? Please tell me where I have whined about filling in and posting the census form ? Cheers. what i ment is you are whining about people not filling it in. i wouldnt worry about it if i were you mate. I couldn't give two fucks if no one filled it in.. that's their problem ! I gave the information I wanted to give, and also put a load of shite on it. I wouldn't want to give the b

  17. I'd imagine the quarry would see the 2 million candle power lamp long before it saw the dog !! Do people REALLY still think a light coloured dog has a dis-advantage over any other dog !!! ???? Cheers.
  18. And in a few months time there wil be posts on here crying about how unfair it is 'cause they got fined for not posting a bit of useless paper !! If anyone feels that strongly about it, take it to the House of Commons and try to give it to Cameron and tell him to stick it up his arse, instead of whineing about it on a hunting site ! Cheers.
  19. Bringing in a pup from "Lurcher to Lurcher " breeding, you could get anything !! Unless it's from a proven strain. When someone just puts their Collie/Beddy/Grey to a Bull/Saluki/Grey/Whippet the pups WILL be a mix of all breeds and you could get anything ! With an F1, whatever cross, you have a fair idea of the size, wheight, coat, etc ! Of course, some "Lurcher to Lurcher" breeding is planned, and you get what you expect... but unfortunatly most of the time no thought has gone into the breeding and thats why so many dogs are up for sale !! Cheers.
  20. So why didn't you get a pic of me ? Oh, of course, I haven't a best side..... or front ...or back !! LOL !! We could have probably had a good craic if we had recognised each other ! Did you know any of the lads there ? Maybe we have mutual aquaintances. Cheers.
  21. Looks like Nancies owner?? That ran up to Sniper in '97?? I think most coursing lads will know him.... no reason to put his name up on here, unless he wants it ! Cheers.
  22. LOL !! Your'e older than me !! My Grandad was one, and my older brother was working a horse and cart out of the back of Farriers Bar in Walker Gate just a few years back. You lads used to bring scrap and rag and bone from Ashington and Bedlington area all the way down to Byker to wheigh it in at Jebs or Greivers, (a good horse man !!), years ago !! A round trip of about 50 miles on horse and cart !!... The way things are going; those days might be back !! Cheers.
  23. That was the nicest stepping horse there, a proper "Ragmans" horse !! LOL !! That's allways a good ride out, from Walker to the coast and back. It was a nice sunny day, and had a few pints with a lot of lads I hadn't seen for a while, from Throckley, Lemington, Benton, etc. Hope they are still having the ride outs ! Cheers.
  24. It's still against the law not to fill them in and send them back ! I'd rather write a load of shit on it and send it back; than have te b*****ds fining me £1,000 !! This government want every penny they can get; and they WILL follow it up and fine you ! Cheers.
  25. Hate to put a dampener on it lads; but theres a £1,000 fine for not filling it in and sending it back, or destroying it ! Just put any shite on it.... For religion I put "St. Hubert of the Hunt" For "ethnicity" I put "none of the above" ! There's loads of other nonsence you can put on it, and not get into trouble, as long as you send it back ! Cheers.
