  1. One of the fastest dogs I've seen, which, as is the case with these types, was his undoing......dropped both gracillis, so retired. Cheers
  2. This one also "up north"; Out of Geoff Fletchers breeding, so I can almost guarantee there's a bit of Greyhound in there somewhere ! ? ! Cheers.
  3. Best working KC whippet I've seen, Mally's Vixen. Long gone now, so, no, I'll not be matching anyone with her ? ! She put many long night shifts in lamping in winter, and could kill a hare. Cheers.
  4. Day walking is great, probably my favourite, but I don't allways run them off a slip. If the dog is decent, you can get on a bit of high ground, let the dog quarter the field, nose down, tail up, getting faster and faster as the scent gets hotter, then the inevitable explosion of brown fur as the hare bursts from its seat and then its game on ! You can watch all the fun from your vantage point, but not all dogs will quarter a field finding their own quarry, some are point and slip. All great fun ? Cheers.
  5. Yeah, just a part timer ! ? ! Cheers.
  6. Damn whippet; I told the shivering little f****r it couldn't take daytime roe; but the awkward f****r just gave me one of those withering looks and went on doing it anyway ! Cheers.
  7. Damn bull x ; I told the bucket headed twat it couldn't kill daytime hares, but the evil b*****d was determined to prove me wrong; Cheers.
  8. This place used to be full of day walkers at one time, and they all claimed that Saluki types were the pinnacle of working dogs, and each of them had the best bred, the best catchers, matches were thrown about like confetti, but in the end, they all turned on each other ! But now we have mC who has risen like a Phoenix from the ashes that MB left them in when he beat them at their own game, with a little, hairy rabbit lamping dog ! ? ! Im finding it hard to seperate fact from fiction, truth from windup, but it is certainly getting plenty of attention on these boring summer days ! ?
  9. I know mate, I said a while back that I was sure you were just teasing. After all, no one can be as daft as to think the Saluki hybrid is greatest running dog ever ? Cheers.
  10. It won't be the first deer x I've had. Not knocking them but the dumbest dog I've ever had was pure Saluki. Cheers.
  11. I wouldn't dream of trying to teach anyone anything about dogs........... I'm still learning myself ! ? ! Cheers.
  12. I said " IF" ! ? ! I know you are beyond redemption, but I hold out hope for the younger generation ! ? ! I'm an eternal optimist! Cheers.
  13. If I can encourage the furthering of knowledge, however small or insignificant it may seem, then I'll go to meet my maker knowing that my time on here was not wasted ! ??? ! Cheers.
  14. Look like young dogs......don't tell me these cro magnon looking shithouses were starting pups off on lambs ??? Dear God.
  15. My great grandad used to run Beddy and Saluki crosses in the 1800's; Cheers ?
  16. The lads that run fallow bucks in the rut will be rolling in the aisles at that statement ! ? ! Cheers.
  17. Usually, mistakenly, thought to be of Pakistani extraction, but actually Yemeni . ? Cheers.
  18. I'm mortified ! I beg forgiveness! I can only put it down to me enjoying a rather fine Chardonnay, having my attention distracted, and not paying due attention to the ongoing quiz ! My abject apologies. Cheers.
  19. Well, I'm going out on a limb here, and putting my new found status as a sage on the line, but is the fawn a chittal ? Cheers.
  20. Anyone remember the guy with the Alsatian/Greyhound cross that wiped out the herd of Pere Davids in a deer park ? Maybe '70's or 80's. Cheers.
  21. No ones disagreeing with you ? We're just saying their was hare killers before the Saluki. Thanks for the invite, I've been invited, and accepted, by some great lads, some stuff has been out of my and my dogs comfort zone, but still enjoyed every momemt and gave it a go, better hurry though, I'm not getting any younger ! ? ! Cheers.
  22. I'm pretty certain Billy's dad ran non-ped whippets, I used to run at the same time at the same clubs in Ashington and Bedlington, and him a Bill ran pure Deerhounds and deerhound crosses, not Salukis. Bills on here and may clear that up. The old deer cross in my kennel is direct out of a Doxhope dog, and the pup I've got coming has Doxhope grandparents. Cheers.
  23. mC, if I'm ever up on charges, I want you as my brief ! Youre like a dog with a bone, pardon the pun ! I admire tenacity, in a man as much as a dog. You put up a great defence of the Saluki hybrid, which no one is arguing against, by the way, but give us old 'uns our memories, even if you do think we are looking back thru' rose coloured specs ! ? ! Cheers.
  24. I ran single handed with every dog I've had, also doubled up in certain circumstances. The Saluki hybrid was just a natural progression, but you shouldn't make such definitive statements as " before the Saluki every thing was ran doubled up", because they weren't. Then, as now, there were arseholes who ran 3, 4, 5 dogs on a hare, but many ran and tested their dogs single handed. Im not arguing that the Saluki hybrid is the best hare dog, but you're being very dismissive of dogs you may never have seen. I could be wrong, and you could be an old fart like me ! ? ! Who is tell
