I think it's only common courtesy,(how's that, Keith ?), to learn a few words or phrases when abroad, it can go a long way. It can go slightly awry at times though; when flying, I try to find out the nationality of the cabin crew, usually by listening to them talk to each other or they sometimes have a little national flag pin on their uniform. On one long haul Emirates flight I practiced my pidgeon Spanish on a steward, ordering drinks and thanking him. Arabic is a difficult language, there are so many dialects. Egyptian Arabic uses a “hard G” whereas Saudi and Gulf Arabic uses a “Soft G”. There is no “P” in Arabic. My grandson is fluent in Arabic but at home with his Saudi family he speaks colloquial Arabic, whereas at school he is taught grammatical Arabic. When I was in Dubai with Sheik Hamas Ghunaim of “Hounds Of Arabia fame, he kept bringing his friends to speak to my daughter in Arabic and ask them where she was from. A true story for you mate; I had a Pakistani engineer working with me in the Middle East, he wanted to emigrate to Canada but kept failing the English Language certification. This supprised me as he was very proficient in speaking, reading and writing English, as he had to be to work in the aircraft business, I put it down to him suffering from the equivalent of “white coat syndrome “ when he actually sat down to take the test. Corbyn was asked 15 times if he thought Hamas was a terrorist organisation, yes or no. He refused to give an answer. He did say he condemns all attacks on Israel , but prevaricated, obfuscated and did everything he could to avoid calling his “friends” a terrorist organisation. Cheers.

I think Sunak is out of his depth. He’s a technocrat, not a politician. It appears no one in the “bubble” is telling him what the feeling on the street is, he’s listening to spads who have never had a job outside of politics. He’s neither left or right, he is in the centre and a treasury man, and the Treasury is 100% for massive immigration thinking that it raises GDP, they don’t care about the social upheaval. All I can hope for is that the Conservatives are so decimated in the GE that a true “Conservative”, right of centre party emerges, (Reform ?), and Labour don’t completely

There have been precedents, Lord Carrington was Foreign Secretary during the Falklands War, and Gordon Brown made Lord Mandelson a Minister. You don’t need to be an MP to be in government, there are plenty in the House of Lords who are Ministers and Shadow Ministers, but it’s very rare for a Lord to become one of the holders of the four great offices of state. Cameron will not appear in the Commons, no Lord is allowed to, he will answer question in the Lords, but it will be his deputy who will answer questions in the commons, hardly a satisfactory state of affairs ! There’s always talk of Sunak being “unelected”. This is not true, his constituents elected him to be an MP, but here we have a genuine case of an unelected Foreign Secretary. He has no mandate from the people whatsoever, but now holds one of the the four great offices of state. Cheers.

Turkey are irrelevant in the great scheme of things. They straddle Europe and Asia, east and west. Erdogon says whatever he thinks his people want to hear, he sides with the Russians in the hope they won’t turn on him, he sides with the west to keep receiving the billions of dollars in aid he gets for supposedly stopping the flow of refugees into Europe, and the west keeps him under control by dangling the hope of EU membership in front of him. Turkey is a basket case. Cheers.

Newcastles Livramenko looks like he will make the grade. Evidently he qualifies to play to Scotland and Portugal but has chosen England. Im not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that he will be Trippiers understudy for the next few seasons. Cheers.

Corbyn said "Hamas and Hezbullah were his friends" . He still has huge influence on the left, he was at the march yesterday. Why doesnt HE condemn Hamas's atrocities with the same fervour he condemns Israel or call for the release of the hostages ? I've tried to avoid getting involved in this, as I actually have a "dog in the fight". My eight year old grandson is half English, half Saudi. At the moment he is in the Middle East at the World Academy School. He is taught an English, American, Arab curriculum, he is fluent in spoken, written an reading English and Arabic. He is also taught the quoran and the bible and all other religions. If Hamas were to harm him, I would want the whole of Gaza, the West Bank, the Golan Heights to be wiped of the map ! Conversely, If Israel were to bomb him, I would want Israel to be also wip

He has proved to be very good when available, but there's a reason he's miles behind Kane in the England set up....Kane is usually available to play, Wilson isn't, as will be proved this coming international break.If that's your opinion, I can respect it but not agree with it. I'm assuming tongue in cheek ? I wouldn't have any Man U player , we aim to be better than our peers, not take their cast offs.. Seriously though, I can see the "elite" teams making overtures to Howe, but I hope he is in for the long run with Newcastle with the backing of the owners and the board. He has the backing of the fans, but we all know how fickle fans can be ! We think it's a long term project, even though we would like instant results, we will just enjoy the roller coaster ride , after all, it's far better than we've had under the Ashley/Bruce regime. I'm loathe to make excuses for Newcastle, but with players like Botman, Burn, Tonali, Bruno, Isak, Wilson, all automatic first team choices, missing then losing Miggy early on, there's no way I could see us beating Bournemouth. All teams go through injury crisis, and it's our turn at the moment. Ive argued with my nephew, a mad Toon fan, that Wilson is a liability, yes, he scores when he's fit, but he's too injury prone to depend on. We need an elite striker, first and foremost, and a top class centre half at the least in the next transfer window. This wouldn't be a problem

I was speaking generally, I couldn’t tell what type of cistern that was. I look at it a bit like brakes or track rod ends on a car, I wouldn’t just change one side, I’d do both while I had the tools out and the car on jacks. Same with a cistern, it would only take minutes more to change all the components while you were at it, and the extra cost is negligible and you’ve got peace of mind that one of the other components isn’t going to fail in the near future, but I bow to your experience.
