  1. I'd say how many seasons depends on how much work the dog sees during those seasons. As an average i'd say 3/4 seasons would show a proven dog. Dogs A, may get out once a week during the season and catch 2 rabbits a session, dog B may get out 4 nights out a season and manage 20 rabbits a session, so although both dogs may work for three seasons which dog has the better experience? Then for those that are fortunate to have more legal quarry to go at, dog A may be out one night a week and catch perhaps a couple of rabbits and a fox, dog B may be out four times a week and dropping several rabb

  6. All depends 90% of the time i'll start lamping around midnight and lamp until perhaps 5am, othertimes i'll be out at 9ish and just have a few hours...............
  7. Unless you are seeing that amount of stuff fairly regular mate, you will never have them fully up to the job, thats just life........more rabbits will however sharpen them up as the season progresses imho As I said, your dog did well and I would be happy because mine dont get to see those type of numbers either Yes mate your right, plus the lad took a tumble lifting a rabbit and hit a stone wall at full pelt!!! Im happy with him mate and thats all that matters Butler i think your right, numbers up there has to be a military operation
  8. It highlighted out unfit my dog was, he perhaps ran over 30 runs to get those 10 and there is a big difference between now and mid season fitness

  13. Im awake Tomo Was a real good night and although it took us 4 hours to complete the 120 drive due to Tomos Ginsters pasty fetish and the ability to drive the wrong way down the A1 we had a great night and thanks to Tomo for the invite, it was worth you feeling my biceps and pecs for such a rabbit utopia
  14. With terriers i have only ever had bitches, with lurchers i dont mind, bitches can be out of action during seasons and a pain to kennel in a mixed sex set-up but some seem to mature quicker, dogs are usually stronger and when fox were legal i saw many more good dogs than bitches..........BUT i am easy either way thb................
  15. 350 a season just from the motor? If you were out 4 nights a week during the season Sept-Feb, thats say 26 weeks, so 104 trips in the motor, not including dogs laid off, bad weather, blank nights meaning with 350 foxes you were averaging 4 a night every trip out? Not calling you a liar, but many of the teams i knew out in subarus well before the ban on good land never got anywhere near 350, unless you mean digging/lurchers/shooting etc, even then its more than ive ever know anyone take
  16. Just wondering what you guys would consider a good seasons tally pre-ban on a variety of species, did you keep a record and now the bunny is the only legal quarry available to many of us what would you consider a good season. This isn't a willy measuring thread to talk about big bags specifically as one mans good haul will not be another and there will be many varients including land and quarry available...............
  17. In the good ole days if a dog spat out a fox i'd love to meet the man who could get it going again, and whatsmore have faith in it. The problem with rehoming is that the dog usually get passed from pillar to post. Lurchers aren't machines and sometimes no matter how carefully you enter them they wont make YOUR grade, what i really find distastefull is the joy some folk take in culling dogs.........
  18. You get a gold star for NO spelling mistakes And an extra one for typingg sense..... Take one off yourself for over exuberant use of the letter 'g'.. Wanker

  21. I think this is a good topic and not ruined at all by chest puffing or folk typing whilst flexing there moobs Thing is like many other aspects of dog work, one mans version of spewing is different to another
  22. I can't beleive cnuts like him get a tv show, watched the first episode and managed 10 mins before turning it off, total and utter tripe.......
  23. I can honestly say with lurchers i have been fortunate and not had a dog spew, when it was legal all my dogs were capable of killing foxes on a regular basis over time. Being completely honest IF one had spewed i would probably have kept it for edible quarry, i wouldn't cull or give away as my dogs are more than machines, they are family pets too, how do i explain to the kids i took old "spot" who we have had for 6 years and shot him.............. The big issue for me is when folk pass spewers around and the welfare of the dog is affected, or lies are told or animals like this are bred fr
