Don't see the point of them tbh , your not garunteed that you will get the best of both breeds . If I wanted a dog to point and bush I'd get a Brittany
most of the land i lamp is cattle land but i still break my dogs to sheep even if that means going out of my way to do , there is no reason to have a dog not broke to livestock , infact to me it should be done with all dogs wether they are hunters or not
wouldnt even think of entering it to the lamp till you have its basic training sorted after thats done then stock breaking , when dog is 100% round stock and is trained to a reasonable standard do the above
I think in the next 5 years we will see Hare coursing banned in Ireland too. They must be receiving a lot of pressure to follow...
I don't know about that ... As in northern Ireland they took the Irish hare off the tpo which allows us to hunt them with a dog again ... Also we have politicians who are pro hunt and try for change over here ,
Is open coursing legal in Ireland, or is it all park coursing?
Don't know as I'm not from Ireland
But in NI coursing events are banned but we are legally allowed to catch hares with lurchers as long as it's not an organised event

Get a whippy stick , get the dog at your side on lead , walk and if dog tries walking on tap it under the chin with the whippy stick (now I don't mean hurt the dog with the stick just a tap to make the dog not walk on ) do this while walking tight to a hedge or wall so she can't pull away from you
its even better when they go back , and when challenged by the farmer , they give your name and tell them you said its ok
one of the reasons i prefer to hunt alone , also one of the reasons i dont except invites out with other people ...
think yourselfs lucky you have managed to do some upto yet.... ive had 3 nights out since september, other than that the fields have been flooded theres been fog or theres been torrential rain...
shite start to the lamping season for me ...
Can you not build a box onto the A frame of the sheep trailer and just put the dog in the boot when your not towing the trailer . A friend used to put his collie in a jag xj6 boot
my biggest feck up was leaving a 26 grand a year job i enjoyed to move to durham 4yrs ago..
not had a proper job since ..
only bonus is im now living in a nice wee place with a nice wee family and theres no hunting ban here
same here , fields flooded ...
was out today on a very good spot we have sole permission and all we bolted was 2 rabbits ! was talking to the farmer and he said he aint seen any about so me thinks this bad weather we have had is going to affect my hunting this year
