  1. You must be my brother in law.
  2. Not a dumb question mate, differing ranges will change the rifles POI, depending on the calibre as to how much the POI will change, a lot of fast stepping centrefire calibres may only variate + or - 6-7 inches over 300 metres, with the air rifle, the power of the particular model you are using will dictate the trajectory and the change in POI.
  3. Good advice given by SS, the only thing I can add is don't concern yourself too much with the barrel heating up and affecting accuracy while you are zeroing, I can tell you know that after each group you fire (no less than 3 shots) by the time you check your target and make adjustments the rifle will be fine too fire, you could probably crank off 20 shots minimum before there will be a noticeable difference in accuracy. The metals used in barrels today are far superior to that of say 40 years ago. I have fired off hundreds of rounds in a period of around an hour out of light assault rifle barr
  4. Have a Buck guthook job and it is awesome, Sean that Nieto is a cracking looking bit of kit, what's the steel like?
  5. I have borrowed a mates in the past but keep going back to the stone, although I think the Lansky is probably the better method.
  6. Great stuff LG, a dogs behaviour improves dramatically when they start to work and realise what life is all about.........hunting. Good on you'se.
  7. A small corrugated iron shed with dry hardwood sawdust in a line on the floor, light from both ends, let it burn itself out and then replace. The metal cabinet sounds like it would do nicely though.
  8. Very cosiderate post LG, hope he is found safe and well.
  9. Great read Simoman, thankyou for sharing.
  10. Good on you Martin, just as well you asked hey, thats all you can do and it has payed off, hope we see some deer pics soon.
  11. Don't know anything about that particular breed, but I am waiting on a GSP pup at the moment for the same job, the GWP is another sure performer in the deer game.
  12. Which right are you talking about Wilf, all I can say is the one with the beard is definitely the dodgy brother and possibly gay. Was a great day Stiffy as I am sure you are aware from our 0100 hrs message, should be some good sport for you blokes when you'se get out here. The CBR's are a bloody big dog and they won't take any lip from other dogs apparently.
  13. Some lovely pics there Kiwi, the one of the Wirehair looking out of the hide is a ripper. The country is looking very green.
  14. Cheers for the comments, SS do you havy any pics of the GSP working? Can you eat the snipe? LG the Chessy's really are awesome to watch, they are just so intense, apparently though, they are not real keen on working with other dogs. I have attached a series of pics of the owner putting his main Chessy through its paces on blind dummies, collecting them on hand signals, this team finished 5th I think, is that right Stabs, in the National retriever trials. As I am buying a GSP, we took them shooting and their field work and retrieving was first rate, the dog would not leave the train
  15. Totally agree with the first 3 posts mate, all very correct in my opinion. I have a mate who is a very well known Sambar hunter and he swears by the neck shot. He uses round nose bullets out of his 30/06 though, instead of pointed. The heart shot is still a very good target area though and my preferred POI.
  16. Having met a genuine hunting Gsp breeder we invited them up for some shooting and for them to show how their dogs work, was a great day, seeing the dogs point and work in the field, we managed 2 pheasants, just to give me a demo of them in action. These dogs are dynamite, continually working and retrieving when need be, the handler just had total control over them. They also bought some Chesapeake Bay retrievers, these dogs are something else when seeing them doing blind retrieves just working of hand signals. Couple of pics anyway.
  17. There is only 1 ugly mug in the pic and its wearing a ginger beard. Yeah it was a good night mate, when we could hit something. Got in and cleaned them all up then hooked into the rum, towards the end of the bottle we decided to PM you, that's why it doesn't make much sense, my mrs reckons we were pissing ourselves laughing when we were typing. We then got out on the pheasants today, have posted it in gundog section. Take care
  18. Forget a Welshman, definitely be a Kiwi!
  19. Me and Stabs have just got in from a round of pest control on some of my permission. There are oats in at the moment and the farmer wanted us to have a crack at the hares and rabbits around the area. We went out around 1830 with one of Stabs' lurchers and my pig dog just to see if we could get a bit of a run. The first field saw three hares which we tried to lamp for the dogs but it's hard terrain and we got nothing. The fields are big and open and full of scrub with wire fences. We decided to grab the rifles and with the help of a .222, 410 and a .270 we got a few pests and the makin

  21. Yes definitely a Red stag in velvet, I think you will also find it is a farmed deer living on the very best of commercial foods.
