  1. Yes mate, blued synthetic, the new trigger really is awesome and is gunsmith adjustable. There is another option though from the tactical and it is the 700 VTR. It has a triangle contoured barrel which apparently offers good stiffness with less metal than a bull barrel and as well as being lighter it is also supposed to cool faster. It has a 22" barrel with a muzzle break machined into it, not sure if it is on their website yet, I seen it in a gunshop the other day and it really is a good looking rifle. Available in .204, .223, .22/250 and .308
  2. Lads I am not having a dig, but what is the fascination with heavy barrelled tactical weapons, does everyone fancy being a sniper, I just don't get it. I have no idea why so many think the .270 is painful to shoot, just not correct. olo8 if you want to shoot competition the .308 will need to be your choice, I prefer .270 as it has a flatter trajectory, basically if I am out after large game and decide to shoot a rabbit with it at distance it is a lot easier with the flat shooter, that is the only reason though that I shoot .270 rather than .308 which is also a fine calibre, there is reall
  3. Macberran I have just bought a Rem 700 SPS in .270, absolutely beautiful rifle, the trigger is brilliant and I have squeezed a few. As someone else has said unless you are target shooting there isn't any real need for a varmint job, the mountain rifles are extremely accurate.

    New Zealand

NZ is a beautiful country, the only down side, its full of Kiwi's.
  5. Cheers Missie, be good to hear more and see some more pics.
  6. Local, Rem Core-Lokts will do the job on Red deer, but I definitely wouldn't use them on fox or the smaller deer species, they are a good projectile, but need something solid to make them expand otherwise they go straight through.
  7. Dan if the trigger guard screw mounts into the actual rifle which it qiuet probably does, could well be the issue.
  8. Deker, the main problem with cheaper variables is as Gary says, they usually don't hold the same POI when changing magnification. Having said that though, the fixed power jobs are great value for money and they do a 8x56 job that Stab's and I had a look through at a Gun expo recently, we were both surprised at the clarity from this scope for $160 Aust. I have used a 4x32 Nikko Sterling on small rifles for 21 years now and it is great, but probably best to steer clear of the vari's. I think the main differences are a push/pull setup for adjustments ans a better illuminated reticle.
  9. Thankyou for sharing Missie, great pics and story, obviously you are still allowed to hunt deer in the UK in this manner.
  10. Nice one mate, good to see the little lady having some fun.
  11. I'll go with Deker, sounds like something is loose.

The only man that would ever get in the sack with old fish face is Stab's, but he is perverted.

I think it is your avatar mate, your obsessed.
  18. G'day mate, a 4x40 will be perfect to start with, a lot of the cheaper variables change their point of aim (POI) when you change the magnification, so until you gain some experience, best to stick with a fixed power job. Try and buy it from the same place you are getting your rifle from and ask them to mount the scope and boresight it. Have fun
  19. Quote Looks good mate...I'll show you how to shoot the thing when I'm next up I will get the boys to oil the air rifle up for you mate. Maybe a bit heavier than the .222, for a .270 it is a treat to shoot mate, brilliant recoil pad, you probably won't cry like you do every other time after firing. Get up here and we will get out.
  20. Hey Lads, just picked up my new Rem 700 SPS .270 during the week, zeroed it yesterday, lovely bit of gear, best trigger I have ever squeezed. Fired 2 shots morning after I picked it up, because I couldn't help myself, anyway zeroed it yesterday, first 3 shot group measured 50 mm at 150 metres, very happy with that, straight out of the box. Mounted with a Tasco 6x40 on Leupold alloy rings and bases. :thumbs-up:
  21. Hydrogen Peroxide is great for flushing deep wounds. Debrisol is the dogs bollocks, always put it on my dogs when they are hit buy a pig, it will stop an infection dead in its tracks, Chloromide is another one or Terramyacin. The first 2 products are the best as they are delivered via pump pack, the third is an aerosol and as you propably already know dogs are not real keen on the spray can. The products sting like you wouldn't believe when applied, however they are second to none. The product that Timeout is referring too is more than likely Chloromide, the beauty of Debrisol is that it is
