  1. I'm gonna get same dog soon aswell. As for intoducing ferts to dog.All i did was watch her carefully and if she seemed a bit shady or curled a lip.I just gave a firm command "NO". was quite funny at times when the ferts gave a nip and the dog was lookin at me as if to say can i kill it lol..My ferts stopped nippin her and now she dont bother with them at all.Just remeber to watch them like a hawk until your totally confident they are bonded.A bite from a ferret on a dogs ear or whatever is no great deal. However a bite from a dog is a very dead ferret.Good luck and it will all come good.Get them
  2. Ian..........put the ferret cage at a low level so dog can sniff right up to the cage wire and go nose to nose with the ferrets........they will soon get used to each other.........always works for me. My beddie whippet and the ferrets quite happily work with each other and i have never had a problem in any way over many years of working dogs and ferrets together. Regards Rolfe Thanks Rolfe, I respect your opinions and heed all of your posts , thanks ian.
  3. I've got two fine albino hobs now about 18 month old and coming on grand. I'm gonna get a Bedlington-whippet pup and was wondering about the best way to introduce them. Will the ferrets bother the dog? will the pup bother the ferrets? what's the best way of making sure all goes well.
  4. Don't think about them Stubby, they know you are after them. Once you stop thinking of them, you'll get the b4st4rds.
  5. 18 mesh wide no taper, 3'6" to 4' long with 2" mesh, no bigger. Purse nets are what they're called , purses. Larger mesh allow rabbits to get into the net, which can throw it off. The mesh should allow the rabbit to slide over the mesh and be bagged.
  6. Why not? They are tapered to skimp on materials. Buy or knit full sized nets. You'll still have the odd rabbit escape, so full nets are better.
  7. Knit them yourself sparky. Ebay list them too by the hundred. Don't buy tapered nets though.
  8. I only get a quid each for big rabbits, and the guy twitters on about food preparation courses and certificates being on the horizon. I think prices could go up if Rick Stein or Hugh Fearnley-whatshisname push it. As was also said, a recession biting hard could push up prices, but it might not be good news all round as good prices for rabbits would mean stiffer competition to get at them. The doley boys that have never worked would also be out poaching them at night and lying sleeping all day.
  9. The rabbits' feet must go under the snare and it's head must go through it so that the neck pushes the bottom of the loop 'till it tightens. It looks to me that no rabbits have been through the snares on your pics, "I may be wrong", but try to visualise the rabbit coming through. Read Glenn Waters articles in detail. Woodga too, he's an excellent snarer, one of Glenn's prodigy's, with his own attitude, excellent. Use pro size snares, and good luck. The guys on here are the business, say little and read a lot, good luck mate. Take care ian
  10. Amen to that DUCKWING, good post as ever ROLFE>
  11. Hi mate, it prevents the tealer turning and once you set it, it stays where it is.
  12. As Stubby says mate, just get the kitts. A hutch "does" and I have to admit I use one, though not with a clear conscience. I try to make it up to them by getting them out in the garden every day for an hour, I've ferret proof fencing, though you wouldn't dare leave them for more than a minute as they dig like badgers. Good luck with the new ferts. A court system is much better for the ferrets, ask folks on here for ideas.
  13. I'm assuming this is braid. Ok cut out the frayed piece. Get a needle with a large eye, and lay the two ends so they overlap by about 6" or 15cm to the younger generation. Thread 2" or so of one end into the other braid and do the same with the other end. It doesn't really matter how much braid you pull into the other piece as it's just so it won't catch on the net. Once you have both ends buried, then sew the two lines together using fine nylon string or carpet thread and you should have a repair that is strong and that runs through your net. "Tip" if you haven't got a suitable needle a loop
  14. well done Rolfe, a good deal. I'll have to get out more.

    4z or 6z

Firstly can I mention that it's not oz, it's just z. I think 4z is 40lb breaking strain, and 6z 60lb. I have both and hemp nets, they all catch rabbits, though for sheer tangleability a 3z net I have takes beating. All have pro's and cons. I mostly use 4z 50 yard nets which contain 100 yds of net whose mesh sides are 2 1/8", these are good. I also use 2 1/4" mesh hemp nets, and even 2 1/2" hemp net which is surprisingly better than most would expect. For adult rabbits 2" mesh is too small for longnet mesh, you have to tangle them. If I had to have just one net, I'd have a
  16. I can't add anything that hasn't already been added. Wonderful day, great pics. This is what it's all about. Broke Back Mountain with ferrets . I hear that you can buy KY jelly in the Ferret supplies shop since this thing started. Great posts Woodga. Great sport Mr Teapot, taking all the stick,(Pun intended) well done all.
  17. Great pics spot on. The poor soul too sleeping like a baby, he looks shagged, but I hope I'm wrong.
  18. Apparently mate, the wire for hoop snares is 3mm high tensile, I think about 5 feet long, though I've never had to use them. They're for loose sandy ground where a peg wouldn't hold.
  19. That's where I've been going wrong, I've been burying mine 2.3 inches deep in self raising flour.
  20. Excellent haul and great pictures as usual. Where do you put your marker pegs as I don't see any on the pics?

    mk3

Firstly, put some electricians tape over the speaker holes on the back, this quietens it a bit. If you live in a two story house, put the/a collar the way up it would be on a ferret, on the back of a chair downstairs, and take the box upstairs. The box has a switch for search or locate, it can search I think for up to 16 feet, so put it on search till it finds the collar then switch to locate. By watching the LED lights and or the sound," I hate the sound but that's just me" you should be able to fine tune it to locate the collar at 6 or 7 feet depending on you particular conditions. Hope this
  22. Forgot to ask, Do you have to drink the 100 pints in one go, just 'cause if you need a hand like, well I wouldn't see you stuck mate, pal, chum. Just purely as a favour like to help out a mate.
