Could it be a visual thing? where it wouldn't work in the dark, ie in a roofspace, but might in a more noticeable place, or is it just bollocks.?

Really Not Sure What To Say About This One
ianrob replied to a topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
A great post Ditch, almost Kafkaesque. I could see you in his garden. -
Thanks mate, I'll give them a try

Hi guys, I'm not usually on this section, but thought as I passed it, that you guys would be the best to advise me. My old HW97K is a bit low on power these days, is there a repair or upgrade kit available, I once read of a venom kit is it still about. I'd appreciate any advice from the people who know . Thanks ian.

We all try to work as humanely as possible. We use nets when necessary, or employ methods, "all legal" as circumstances dictate. Pest control is the game, not animal torture. There are loads of good guys on here. We try our best, take care ian.

One method I've had success with is not quite as severe as Glenns, is approach the bloke and ask if he's seen anyone near the trap, adding that if you catch whoever it is that you'll rip his f***ing head off, if you're angry it's easy to do the acting. It's worked with two people for me. If he plays up, then follow Glenns advice.

Well done Rolfe, I've only ever had the plain flavoured ones, but apricot, mmm, nice!!!

Buy some builders sand and put it around the entrance to the hole say a meter squared of sand then you will be able to see the tracks clearly and see whats occupying the holes. of course thats if you can distinguish between badger and fox tracks The last sentence was unnecessary and confrontational. ian.

a good one for the anti's. Clowns!!. The only good thing about it was that the ferret rose above it all and stayed calm and unstressed, poor bugger. Kay would put them right I'm sure, if they lived long enough.

Provoke Rat attractant has anyone tried it
ianrob replied to heart of wales's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Me too Tomo, though, it could be fish based as fish is a pretty good attractor for most predators. It could also be made in the US, or Canada. -
Hi mate, Ok you've got the trap set and the hole just the same length as the trap. Pick up the trap by thumb and fingers just across the back like you would a crab. If it springs, you'll get hit but not badly and you won't get caught. A bit of practice at home setting and springing then resetting, will soon have it second nature. If they're brand new, it will take a week or two for the scent to disappear, there are loads of methods for getting traps ready to use, but personnaly, I wash them in washing up soap Fairy liquid or the likes, to degrease them, give them a really good rinse, then hang

Rolfes reply is good, just thought I'd add a little anecdote. Years ago, possibly 30 or so, I was catching moles on a large farm. At the bottom end of a couple of fields was a peaty area that wasn't in cultivation, but had moles active in it. I had a Duffus left set in a run, and as it was on the way I walked round the farm, I left it down. I needed the rest elsewhere on the farm, as I wasn't overloaded with traps. The moles in this peaty bit, filled the trap every day and I tried all I could think of, but all to no avail. Eventually I bumped in to an old guy who caught moles,

Hi mate, nice place and a nice down to earth kid that knowas where meat comes from. good on ya. One question, don't you get big old tiapans and things down the holes.
-
very interesting Rolfe, I've had loads of doubles, but it's always been two moles.

Haven't got a 42" flat wotsi, but I know what you mean stubby. I once got two bantams and never had the tele on for a fortnight.

ratchermans first trip with the wires
ianrob replied to woodga's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
thats how you are hardly catching any, because you are using shop bought snares , how many times have people been told on this site that these type of snares are pure shite, thats why woodga is getting big catches because he is using his own professionally made snares , Snareman, you have to remember, that the young lads today have their ears painted on, and their head zips up the back . You have to paste links onto everything for them. take care mate, ian. -
a rabbit snare will hold them, by the way i thought you were learning to snare rabbits , i would concentrate on getting good at that first . Happy Easter Friedrice, I'm sure a squirrel snare would do, if not, the pro snarers will put you right. It will though have to be stainless steel. foot in again Glenn. I'd be better saying nowt.

The best mink snare I ever had was made from the wigwam off a gooses' bridle. I cried the day I broke it when I tripped over a straw while being chased by a hen. # Happy Easter Friedrice, I'm sure a squirrel snare would do, if not, the pro snarers will put you right. It will though have to be stainless steel.

Not going to get all technical, but think it is illegal to harm or clip birds wings. If it is let out, what chance does the poor b*****d have?

Hi mate, give Solway feeders a try. ian.

Approved 'fenn' type Spring Traps
ianrob replied to john b's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
i got a sample mk6 trap off solway with regards to buying a good lot and tho the price was good there are bits about the trap i don,t like , mostly its the same as a fenn , strong spring, brass dog and catch , but if you take a sideways look at the solways , you can see that the round bar and the flat bar do not come anything like close to closing up properly , there a gap of about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch, i think this part of the trap is the most important as it is this bit that kills the rabbit , if its caught by body and neck then a quick kill might be on the cards, but i catch alot by just th -

ianrob replied to fishfish's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Aye very good fishfish. Shame is, I could still see it backfiring, and being used to show other antis the depth we are prepared to go with our depraved thoughts. It certainly had me going. Harmless enough fun, spun into a rope to hang us. -
A vasectomised male will bring her out of season without her being pregnant. I have only ever had jills which came into season in the spring, brought on by the increasing day length, a process called photoperiodism I believe, it affects all sorts of animals even us. Lastly yes your jill can become ill if she is not mated. For good well intentioned responsible information on ferrets, look no further than Kay or Stubby. I'm sure neither would mind a genuine enquiry or two, especially if it were regarding ferret welfare. " This is where I get a PM telling me to mind my own business
