  1. It's a little belter of a rifle. Had a great morning. Watched a king fisher. Had a sparrow hawk land in front of me and never noticed me. Plinked some stubbies at something like 200 off hand and it's very very accurate.
  2. Some folk are just rotten hey....funny but rotten ?
  3. Well I'm amazed by this little 457. I was shooting shotshell cases at 100 paces with it off hand. I used a few ammo types including Remington yellow jackets and they all connected with regularity. I took a grand walk and shot nothing but wow, I stumbled on a Fallow buck. It was bedded just below me. I only had to wait five minutes for the swirling wind and he stood up and stood broadside for 60+seconds. It would of made a simple shot at less than 50yds! Don't you just love this time of year.
  4. I hope I'm as active as you at 70 in just another 17years! I was surprised when you bought a heavy barrel. They really are not necessary on short range rifles with one exception! Handling. If for some reason a a heavy barrel aims well off hand ( like my 452 HMR) it's worth it in my book but it's not a rule. I've had rifles with pencil barrels aim off hand just the same. Most shoot off a rest of some kind today so any weight barrel is going to do. So may as well carry something comfortable in the first place. Atvb. B.
  5. Phil, when I was young and dafter I thought bigger is better. Well in many ways it is but also in many ways unneccesary. Ok a 223 will reach 300yds but it gets stressful, if you miss one, and you will, be it via an obstacle or human error you know you have most definitely educated Charlie. I found most my fox's in my 20's were up to 200yds with a few 300+. There were some missed ones to. As time went by I just found most were shot sub 100yds. I had a few slots on my license and usually a hornet was present. It accounted for just as many as the larger rifles I had. It was at one
  6. That's is a good deal!! These are just HV solids but yes I have tried those you refer to in the past and they were top performers. They reminded me of American eagle which I think was or is made by federal!? These solids actually group very well indeed.
  7. I was out last night to and shot nowt. It was grand in the wind just dark enough to be concealed but not to dark so as to trip. Atvb Jimmy.
  8. Hornet is awesome. I've had three over the years and I will always have a soft spot for them. It can be loaded very cheap if one desires. Cheap fmj bullets reversed and magnum pistol powders.
  9. Nothing on me again. Seen nothing but a few rabbits.
  10. Brilliant photo. Was the bird still warm then?
  11. Cheers mate. Still waiting for a remote switch to that T20 light Dave. It's on a junk from China!
  12. Going buy an old 22 to do up he said! Only going buy 200 rounds he said! 600 rounds later, A-tec wave mod and a new cz 457 my wallet goes into meltdown!! What a nice little rifle though. Trigger is adjustable for weight, overtravel and sear engagement. 60°bolt. Whacking good pin strike and very accurate. Shoots CCI, Federal, Eley and Winchester to similar zero. HV ammunition just shoots a little higher. A well made solid rifle, just what one can expect from CZ. The pigeon were taken with shorts by S&B. The squirrel by the way was carrying an airgun
  13. Most automatic shotguns block the firing pin if 100%lock up is not achieved.
  14. My tub is attached to me all the time....on my waist and it is real, not plastic so there!
  15. Some of you folk just don't understand a thing about firearms at all do you! It is NOT just metal fatigue. If old cartridges have been used there could of been a delayed burn. Or partial burn or sometimes what is called a flame out. The components of the cartridge get forced into the barrel then stop or very nearly stop. The components become in themselves an obstruction all in a nano second. Combustion starts again and a huge pressure is developed causing a failure. The ensuing failure of a component of the gun can not be predicted. In this case it was the lug. It is also possi
  16. Excellent conservation work but they said on the radio today there are something like 150000 fox's so a quick nap and get out again!!
  17. I kept it below 100mph all the way home...just!
  18. Home but I would love to isolate for two weeks....in principle. ?
  19. Let's just hope the ammo doesn't do it again then!
  20. Never saw it. Was to busy looking towards home!
  21. Been in Primark there today....I don't know if that good or sad! ? The folk are fine...I just hate cities. Where ever they are!
  22. Wow, never seen that before. The locking lugs sheered, think the ammo manufacturers owe you a gun !
  23. Don't know then bud. Maybe take the lot to the shop the ammo came from but please keep us informed.
