  1. I did wonder that. They jump the river and work the scrub land that follows the river on the other side. I often hear the pheasants betraying them.
  2. I think it's a shame hornet rifles seem quite scarce at the moment and also think it's a shame some like cz stick with 1-16" twist!
  3. Folk that use hmr seem to stick with the 17gn ammo. It's to flimsy and there must be loads of failures with it on fox. I use the 20gn. Its a tougher construction. I know it penetrates. I care little if they run a distance. I know it has not just got a shallow wound! The wmr works the same as that. A central shot has plenty of penetration to kill the fox even if he does run on after. It's not much different to a classic shot on a deer. Hornet in .223-4" is awesome imo. It can be loaded very cheaply. But spiralling reloading costs and brass life when loaded hot cant compete.
  4. In my humble experience there is nothing in it. For years I had a biased opinion but am very pleased with 20gn bullets verses the 17gn flimsy constructed rounds. Going bigger starts to limit a possible multi role. With the rimfires they will take a few rabbits and squirrels whilst out and about. With a centerfire and the ever increasing ammo costs one may find one is missing out on having some fun!
  5. I've been looking forward to this day off work for yonks. I wanted to use my double 12g muzzleloader and was intent on getting a pheasant and hopefully a woodcock. I was pleased to see more woodcock this year over last year. The day however had other ideas and was a near disaster at one point! First off I got a squirrel, then another. Then I couldn't get a shot off on the several woodcock and then after seeing no pheasants and whilst texting the mrs two pheasants lifted in front of me and I had the phone in hand ?. I then headed to other covets but nothing in them. I
  6. I used red...it knows them all Gav. It could be the mate to a dog I shot several weeks ago. They were together at the time!
  7. The farm manager has been feeding this very elusive fox up at the chicken units and finally he got it feeding in a safe place so tonight the bait was tied and my car positioned for a shot. First though let me tell you about next doors dog! It's a standard poodle dog and my little bitch has taken a shine to him! So much so that she keeps asking me to let her out but really she just wants to check if he is there at the fence. Well this morning at 5:15 she said she wanted to go out. I got up and went down stairs to let her out but the outside security light came on as I got down the stairs s
  8. Nearly every shot killed it ( sooner or later). Well done young feller ?.
  9. God bless you Jim. Natalie is in safe hands now. She has the best Dad in the world in you Jim. Our thoughts are with you mate. N.
  10. I've just ordered a remote with similar dimensions so hopefully I can mount it on the rifle. It has more reach than my current one and little glare/ flare. ???
  11. Its solid Dave. Not to worry been and tried this one and it seems promising. If I can find a remote switch for it.
  12. Well lads it won't budge. Had mole grips on it combined with a 12" wrench and a vice, it won't budge!
  13. No mate. Had to look after stuff at home last night. Then at 3:30 the dog chucked up in the bedroom ?. I like the other one Jimmy. It's got a tight beam but seems not to bright and it might just not spook them! Hopefully get out Friday but there isn't many about on me just yet.
  14. I don't need a pill for anything to work sunshine and my mrs often wears a grin across her face at least twice a year thank you very much.
  15. Bernard Sausage is my name. Some confuse me with someone else! He was a rogue and tyrant. ?
  16. You will have to show the old one has been sold on or handed in for destruction or trade with an rfd.
  17. They are a flock of Robin's. Leave them alone. Spreading disease never hurt anything and it's natural! If we didn't eat meat there wouldn't be a problem. And plants have feelings too, so there!
  18. I know that it it unscrews but fear some kind of thread lock is present.
  19. I don't know Dave. Its solid. Cant unscrew it at all. It needs warming up I think.
  20. What a star. He sent me these and refused anything back! Thank you very much Jimmy. As ever our prayers include you mate. Thank you to everyone on here for the gifts over the years. Best wishes to you all. B. Sausage.
  21. Ones a grey parrot. The right one is a raven obviously and the middle one is some kind of albatross.
