  1. Another nice walk out, good going on the snipe, I’ve never connected with a snipe, they are to quick for me ?
  2. I love the excitement of partridge shooting but given the option I think I’d take duck shooting over anything else I do with the shotgun, I’ve not done a lot of duck shooting but on an old brick pit I’ve had a couple of invites on I couldn’t believe how fast they come in and they seem to come from nowhere, to top it of they are bloody tasty ?
  3. We have still got plenty hanging around the shoot, we are still doing 50/60 bird days and this time of year on our small shoot is good going, locally on my mooching fields the pheasant have dried up but the partridge are still about
  4. That’s a big old boy ( the fox I mean ? ) it’s nice to see someone getting out and about, I’m still grounded only allowed out for visiting accompanied by the wife in case I make a break for it, still I’m released from my festive sentence tomorrow, so pigeon shooting it is ?
  5. A lovely way to spend this most festive of days, you don’t see many of them vicious little buggers up this way but when we do it’s nice for them to end up like that one ?
  6. Merry Christmas chaps, hope you all have a good one, I’m the only one who doesn’t do Christmas in our house so it can make for an interesting day ?
  7. Fantastic, great to see you up and about ?
  8. I went up to the shoot this morning to take our landlady some flowers and a Christmas card up as a little thank you for all the shooting she allows me to do up there, so after 30 mins or so of listening to all her ailments and chatting about the weather and this and that I decided to have a little wander chuckling a bit of wheat about as I went, there’s still a lot of birds about in some drives and around the farm although they were looking a bit damp and sorry for themselves I think we could make a good day of it in a weeks time, only 3 shoot days left now, the season seems to go quicker each
  9. A few days rest is in order I think mate, the foxes will still be there when you are right ive just got in after a walk around the sheep farm with longshanx and was saying to him that I’ve not heard any calling on the farms or the shoot yet, but plenty where I live over the past few weeks, we only seen one tonight ( not on my land ) and it showed no interest in the call, this wasn’t helped by the clear sky, moon and that it was completely still, I think it’s time to give the digital caller an outing to see if I can get one or two to call back ??
  10. All it is is trespassing and that’s a civil matter not a criminal one, to be honest I don’t think he’ll be there next season they have done no better than us so far this season and put a lot more birds down than we do, we have been shooting a good few of there birds the last couple of times we have shot, a big field of rape on the boundary has helped a lot with this, we tend to push the rape from the boundary up to the edge of our wood where the guns are lined out after lunch giving the birds time to make there way into the rape in the morning ready for the afternoon drive
  11. Ha ha, that couldn’t look anymore photo shopped if they tried, my nephew could do a better job with his scissors and prit stick ?
  12. All the best for the op, I would recommend a small bell as you take it easy during your recovery don’t lift a finger until you feel ready to, also large amounts of tea and Christmas treats will help your speedy recovery your a brave man to be out in this, I’m at a place called Bowes Moor now and it’s wild, even the sheep are hid behind a wall and these are proper hard northern sheep?
  13. Nice work, it’s the time to be at them now all the ewes are been taken in ready for lambing, I’ll be out on the farm over Christmas hoping to take a few ?
  14. It’s not always easy to creep up on them mice ?
  15. If you have your own permission that is suitable for a HMR and you are granted your variation, I would be surprised if your ticket came back with conditions on it, the only one I could see it having is the same as Walshie’s stating what the rifle can be used for, if you have permission on other land you will know if it’s safe to use the HMR on or the land owner will tell you if they are happy for you to do so, I have a lot of land I have permission to shoot on but I could never put it on my list of permission’s or use it for a variation, so it’s left to me to decide what is safe to use there
  16. That’s an open ticket, if you have the land suitable for the HMR you will put this down on your variation you will get a visit from your FEO tell them about your land and that you also get invited to shoot other peoples land so a restricted ticket would be a bit of an inconvenience, I’ve never had any problems getting anything up here all they want to know is the size of the land and an understanding of safe back stops, I’ve got a mate in Lincolnshire and they have a few problems with it been so flat down there so with the centre fires you need a lot of land
  17. Both of mine are zeroed at about 100 yards, as it’s a flat flying round I’ve found that anything you are shooting at between 50 and 150 yards just put the cross hairs on it and pull the trigger, as for ammo the most common and easy to get hold of are honrnady v max 17 grain, I’ve also used Winchester varmint hv 17 grain, I’ve not noticed any difference between anything I’ve put through them
  18. Don’t get me wrong mate I’ve got nothing against commercial shoots, it’s a business and if they are sustainable and you have the money to do it then why not, we have a commercial shoot near us and it starts with the grouse in August and goes onto the partridge and pheasant, they were well know for very big days with teams of guns coming from America and Dubai, shooting the arse out of it but it’s these people that bring the money ( everybody wants to be a loader for them because the tips are mental) now that estate was sold last year for 12 million and the chap who has bought it wants to go fo
  19. It was certainly a cold one up this way, the weather said snow by 3pm and for once they were on the money, just in time to rap in and head to the pub for a warm in front of the fire
  20. Cheers mate, I’d agree with you that the smaller private syndicate are better because it’s about the day unlike some of the commercials I’ve been on where it’s just about how much lead they can put in the air, It’s the people that make the day not the shooting ?
  21. Another fantastic day on the shoot, had a mate of mine shooting with us today from Lincolnshire ( Robin foxer off YouTube) and it was definitely worth his 3 hour drive to get here both him and his mate Richard had some lovely birds over them, very different ground to what they are used to down there way on the flat lands, 58 picked and maybe another 6 or so not found, beating teams done me proud today managing to lift the birds in ones and twos to give a steady flow, longshanx is proving to be a valuable member of the line ( cheers mate), no decent pics this time because for some reason my pho
  22. Another cracking day out, some how this time of year seems right for a walk out with a front stuffer, it all seems to fit in so well with your surroundings ?
