  1. It just goes to show he hasn’t done a very good job this year as a lot of his have made their way into the back drive on our shoot, that may be the first drive on Saturday ?
  2. It’s in the bag if you broke the chocolate hobnobs out ?
  3. You will be fine, if you are getting a visit you will be granted a ticket, just be yourself with them, they are there to help you out, not catch you out ?
  4. It was short lived, most of it has gone today but the bitter wind is still there, no doubt we will have a bit more on the moors over the next few weeks
  5. Your not wrong, I was saying to my mate I was looking forward to the winter, but after working in it all day today the thought of 6 months of winter like last year makes me shiver
  6. So as I mentioned a bit earlier in the post, I can take the odd deer from the shoot land, a little while ago my mate contacted me to say there’s a fallow buck up there with half his head gear missing and is on the list, he said he’s an older lad and would be a good one to remove, hope l can leave it for a few more weeks as it would be ideal for over the festive season not the best picture he sent me but you get the idea
  7. That’s a very nice restaurant, I’ve been once, when we went you booked the table for the night so we had the full evening in there, I dread to think what the bill was
  8. Well the farmer who owns the land that next doors shoot is on has had a word with the keeper and told him he has to stay off our land and had to go and apologise to the lady who we rent from, so he has been to see her, apologised and proceeded to tell her he was moving them off her field because they were pulling all the wheat out, now this lady has been farming for over 50 years, so she verbally ripped him a new one, he really should of asked his landlord who she is instead of just assuming she was just a silly old woman
  9. It’s a private members shoot so we don’t sell days, we do have guests on some of the shoot days but all them places are taken up this season, if anyone drops out and a space becomes available I’ll let you know, I’m easily bought with a good bottle of whisky ?
  10. No, I’ve never be up to it, I go past it when Sutton bank is closed and I have to nip in the back way, I’m going to take a look next time I’m that way
  11. Was it the monastery at Wass? That’s 5 mins from me, we have some very big beasts on our land, forestry manage them in the woodland but I can take them off the fields when I want one as long as it’s a cull deer
  12. I think you will be ok, unless on the off chance you bump into the emperor of Japan on one of your many outings ?
  13. The shoots a bit further over mate, between Sutton bank and Helmsley, a place called sproxton, I came down off the top into stokesley and it was clear and windy so it looks like the east wind is blowing it over the tops, looking at the weather it’s going to be very cold over the next week
  14. So my good nature got the better of me again and I’ve been up to give my mate a hand feeding up, a lovely scene on the north Yorkshire moors but bitterly cold in the wind
  15. A lovely fresh morning for a walk out ?
  16. Sad times, hope you have some in the greenhouse to keep you going?
  17. We have had a bit of the white stuff overnight, sleet now where I am, my mate has just rang me to say it’s all white on the top where the shoot is, I think he was hinting that he didn’t want to go and feed up and was hoping I’d volunteer to go up, ha ha, it won’t take you long was my reply, crack on son I’ll stay here and turn the heating up a notch ?
  18. Yes you are right, I’ve just looked it up and it’s a green pheasant or a Japanese green pheasant, it’s the national bird of Japan
  19. Nice work, that first cock bird has some stunning colouring ?
  20. The weathers definitely changed, I would of thought we will have a light covering on the hill by Sunday, but nothing like you get up your way, a bit of cold weather will do the pheasants good
  21. Been out for a walk round the pheasant shoot tonight, I’m now at home absolutely freezing and soaked through, not a terrible night as my mate took a scabby looking vixen but not far off, didn’t even bother with pictures because I just wanted to go home so I’ve put a couple on from this morning, out for a few hours with a cracking lad off here?
  22. I’m definitely going to have a go at that in the new year, I know just the spot for it, so we could have a day on the pheasant and then put in a woodcock drive in the other side of the shoot to finish the day off ?
  23. I’ve never done that, but I like the sound of it?
  24. My shoot is in North Yorkshire near a town called Thirsk ( Sutton bank ) it’s on working forestry so the conditions for woodcock are near perfect, like bell said there’s a few about already so fingers crossed the numbers will be there in a few more weeks, like I said it’s a bit hit and miss and I have noticed the numbers dropping off over the last few years but sometimes you can push a drive through and more woodcock will come out than pheasant, best of luck with your shooting over here ?
  25. I think it’s outrageous I’m not aloud to clear them foxes up, all because some trumpet blower wants to go bombing around on his trusty steed, terrorising the countryside ?
