  1. They are spot on there, did me a good deal on my .223 and did an overnight RFD transfer to Northallerton shooting and didn’t charge me ?
  2. I know someone who has a few goats and they are horrible little tw*ts, all they want to do is headbutt you, I was working in one of the paddocks, on my knees with my back turned and one of the little sh*ts ran from the other end of the paddock and butted me in the back, took the wind out of me, good and proper
  3. Is it because they put up more of a fight that a ewe ???
  4. The only aim in life for a sheep is to escape or die in the most random way possible ?
  5. It was an adult dog and the back of its head was missing, I said, send me a picture and he called me a sick basta*d and said he’s chucked it in the hedge and was not going back to take a picture of it ?
  6. Cracker that mate I had an hour at the sheep farm tonight, seen 2 on the farm but nether was having any of it, disappearing onto next doors land, at one point a cat almost got it, it was only when I got it to come into the field that I noticed the tail and the little round head, it just goes to show, never take the shot unless you are 100%, when I left the farm I drive past a reservoir that the farmer has ewes in, looking into the field I seen the unmistakable head of a fox through the thermal, pulled over, loaded the rifle, rested between the door and the windscreen, the fox didn’t move
  7. I told him not to forget to water it, I think it was lost on him ?
  8. Cheers mate, since the virus came and people were stuck at home the type of work we were doing changed a lot and money that would be spent on holidays is now been spent on gardens, the amount of India sandstone I’ve put down in the last 12 months is nuts, I’ll be glad to start a ground source heat pump job tomorrow, back to what I’m good at, digging holes ?
  9. Around 30 grand, there’s about 15 grand in the grass and the cushion matting, then there’s 120 tonne of type 1 stone, all the drainage gear, about 3 1/2 grand in the sleeper wall and fence, then there’s all the other bits, 40 bags of postcrete, half a tonne of paving sand, decking screws at 50 quid a box etc, it soon adds up
  10. He’s not daft that lad, turned up in shorts knowing that I’d be putting feeders out and having to walk through nettles and brambles “ oh look I’ve got my pasty bread stick looking legs out, you’ll have to do all the work”. I work with him as well, I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to winter ?
  11. But will she, I’m worth more dead than alive to the missus ?
  12. My missus has been really sick the last week, cough ? runny nose sore throat, 4 COVID tests later, it turns out she was the only person in England to have a cold ?
  13. 6th of November is the first day, we’ve only got 7 days this year, just the way the weekends fall this year, we have a day pencilled in for the 1st of January but a good 50% of the syndicate aren’t happy about that day, that could be a cracking day if we go ahead with it, because we can do all the boundaries because 100% next door won’t be shooting
  14. Big busy day for me up at the shoot today, feeders placed out, feed around the pens, tracks made to get the quad down, new security light fitted and signs ( for dog walkers to ignore) put up for the old girl, I was joined later in the afternoon by a rare beast in these parts, the lesser spotted shoot captain who had brought me half a tonne of wheat, he told me that a couple of members want to help out, (REALLY) they want to do what I do, up there every 48 hours, no matter what the weather or what the missus has planned, oh, it’s the weekend and she wants to go shopping and out for a bit of di
  15. Good little trip out that, some proper little trouble makers sorted out there ?
  16. That’s top class that mate, I can’t see you ? oh, wait a minute, your behind the camera ??
  17. Simple answer is no foxes / small deer .243 covers both rabbits .22lr 99% of people who have FAC have one and I would guess for the majority it was the first rifle they had on their ticket cant answer about range’s because it really doesn’t interest me
  18. Thought I’d have a break from the work around the shoot this evening and take myself for a walk around some local fields to shoot a few rabbits, now I know it was a full moon and as still as it could be but I expected to see a bit more than I did, half a dozen rabbits seen, 2 rabbits shot and one of them wasn’t on my fields, I did notice a hell of a lot of mice through the thermal, no wonder there’s so many barn owls around, well, not much shooting but it was nice to be out on my own for a bit
  19. For what you pay for jack pike I think it’s ok, the shirts, jumpers etc are all good enough, I would say that the wellies and the boots are absolute sh*t but there’s very few shooting clothing companies that make good footwear, if you pay a few quid more you won’t go wrong with deerhunter or seeland. Harkila make some really nice gear but it’s top end price wise and if I was spending that kind of money I would buy schoffel or Musto ( personal choice you understand, I’ve got nothing against Harkila ) two expensive ones to stay away from are shooterking and swazi and another good mid range one t
  20. The stuff is fine, other cheaper brands to look at are Seeland, Percussion, Game and a little bit more expensive Deerhunter when I’m out on shoot days and want to look like a posh knob, I wear Musto, Barbour, Schoffle, Chameau and the likes, but my Musto shooting jacket was about 300 quid and is no more waterproof or warmer than my 60 quid Game smock I wear when I’m out fox shooting in winter
  21. It depends on what shooting you are doing, in daylight you will never beat good quality glass, on a night you will never beat good quality glass as long as what you are shooting at will stand long enough in a light for you to shoot it, if it won’t and you want to make your life easier use nv for the night
  22. We’ve all been there, I’ve missed a couple of sitters in recent months
  23. I used to moan about it every day but I guess that’s because I did it for so long, my last job was 7 years at IVECO I was paid more than anyone else in the garage because all they could get was car mechanics and needed someone who knew about trucks, before that I was gaffer at a tanker/road haulage company where I specialised in chemical tankers ( that was a good job, before they were bought out) if you are thinking about it, I’d look at the HGV side, it pays a lot better than a car mechanic, a few of my mates still do it and they are all on 40+ a year and cars are to small, you can’t hit them
