  1. Take more than a bit of water to keep them lot out, they’d give the vikings a run for their money
  2. I give up, I can’t find it, how do I explain what I’ve done to their lawn ?
  3. Still looking, using a bigger spade now ?
  4. I’m not into this ferreting, all this for a bloody rabbit ?
  5. A quick trip up to the sheep farm tonight for a go at the rabbits again, I took little Hugo’s dad with me and just one rifle, the .17hmr for some long shots, taking turns to shoot we gave up after 14 as the rain was getting heavier, not a bad hour out, only missing 2, 1 each, he missed his in spectacular fashion, after 8 shot the little fluffy bugger deserved to live ?
  6. Doesn’t matter with me, left eye closed, right eye closed, both open, both closed, I’m probably still going to miss it ?
  7. Yeah, I should be, I’ll give you a ring towards the end of the week and we’ll sort something out ?
  8. I’ve seen that nice buck again on the field at the back of the farm and there’s been quite a few doe’s over the piggeries, not long to go now for them as well, everywhere you walk there’s slots, now I’ve got feeders out I’ve got a good idea where to look for them, I’m free most weekends so whatever suits you, with a bit of luck I’ll have my binoculars back from repair next week as I managed to bust them, good job vortex come with a lifetime warranty
  9. I can feel it going round in my veins now ?
  10. Shoot bramble gin coming along nicely, looks like vimto, I’m glad I never took the old girls advice and made a pie with them
  11. Chicken and leek pie, new spuds cooked in butter, cavolo nero and a cream, white wine, chicken stock source
  12. The smock was really nice and looked really well made, it was more the after sales, where he got it from wanted to send it back rather than just give him another one, I think in the end they he lost his sh*t with them and they gave him his money back
  13. I’ve got half a dozen spots now where I feed on straw and another half a dozen scratchers I feed under, plus hand feeding on a few rides, I use the feeders as a bit of a back up once they are on wheat, by the time we get into November the fallow start rolling the feeders around unless they are nailed down
  14. Weather’s knackered mate, it’s back up to 21 degrees and sunshine on Friday, we don’t seem to get dry, cold weather until late November now, if we are lucky
  15. No chance of anyone going to feed in this weather today so off I went, I got there around 8:30 and with the weather the way it was the birds were still close to the pens, they have taken to the wheat, preferring to feed from the ground rather than the feeders, this is what I like as they hang around a lot longer scratting about for bits of wheat, once I’d done the two pens I had a ride through the main drives, the birds are spreading out a little further which they need to do now to fill out some of the other drives, like “ Oakwood” and “ Roadside”, we’ve also got a bunch of next doors partrid
  16. A mate of mine paid about 400 quid for a smock and it leaked around the hood and trying to get it changed was a right carry on, he’s got a ridgeline one that’s half the price and had no bother with it
  17. I can always tell when autumn is here when the pigeons start flocking up and I start seeing a lot of deer, where I’m working today is right next to the river Tees and it’s just a constant stream of woodies using the river as a flight line, the amount of duck is mental as well, might have a word with my mate because he has the land 800 yards up from here
  18. ? life in the bus lane now, it’s very different to my early 20’s, lost in a field, not quite knowing where I was ?
  19. Yeah, it’s been brewed by Heineken for a good few years now, I used to work on the trucks at Heineken and john smiths at tadcaster and a few local ones to me, Cameron’s and molson coors, you used to get loads of freebee’s but that all stopped, Cameron’s Ruby Red was always a favourite from the brewery in Hartlepool
  20. Old school, couple of bottles of dog ?
  21. The thing is, if I’m left to it I like doing it and not wanting to blow my own trumpet but it’s 100% better than when I joined it about 12 years ago, before, when they did it as a syndicate they would put about the same number of birds down as we do now and would shoot about 40 on a good day but there were some really good shot there and they were killing almost everything that came out a drive, now it’s a proper mixed bag of shooting abilities and on a couple of the drives I can put 150 birds over the guns at a proper height, we aim for between 50 and 60 a day and much of this comes down to t
  22. It’s starting to annoy me a bit now, the idea was that once the birds came I’d set out where to feed and 2 of use would do it, hasn’t quite worked out like that, I’m doing 300 miles a week just going there to feed, it’s going to have to change next season if they still want me to do it ? for a ginger or 2 tonight ?
  23. Up feeding this morning due to the person who was meant to do it messaged me late yesterday to say he couldn’t go, no explanation, just, I can’t go, now I don’t like to go on a Sunday because it’s my day for food shopping and I like to take it easy, doing a bit of dinner and drinking tea, but it is what it is and to be expected, they all want to be involved until it gets in the way of something else they want to do. I arrived at approximately 8:30 and was greeted by a large number of birds on the tracks enjoying the first rays of morning sunshine, they are coming along well and are taking the
  24. I normally do sloe gin but didn’t get any last year to do it for this year so though I’d give bramble a go because it only takes about 6 weeks
