Not seen any yet, normally May you will start to see the little fluff balls in a couple of places at the shoot, where the vixen lays them up for the day, a friend of a friend shot 3 plus the vixen 3 weeks ago in Norfolk

I’ve had one in the muck pile on the sheep farm stick your hand in, see if you can feel anything ?
-
Got it this time though, it never heard me coming ?

A walk around the sheep farm, just to out the house, my god it was freezing and the wind was crazy, I only managed 5 rabbits and a one eared hare, found some fresh fox poo over the far side, so used the hoppers as bait and I’ll be back for a look this week if the weather ok and I don’t work myself to death in the next few days ?

No one said there was, the company that makes these chairs make all sorts that allow people with mobility problems to carry on enjoying the great outdoors, they even make one that will stand the user up to allow them to shoot standing ( if their disability allows and you have about 25k ) none of us know when or if we will be less mobile or we’ll need the use of a chair, there’s nothing funny about any disability because none of us know what’s waiting for us around the corner ?

You pack of old buggers ? it won’t be long until it’s just a load of grumpy old men going around the fields in these because there’s not many young’uns to take over
-
Great shooting Dave ? I’m feeling left out now with you and FH, I’ll have to get myself out next weekend for one

A late afternoon walk around the shoot, mainly to shoot a few rabbits around the farm, I had a walk around the piggeries first where I shot a rabbit and as I did 11 fallow doe’s came out and ran down the field and back into the wood, I swear they know that they are out of season Heading back to the large field at the back of the farm I shot another 4 rabbits along the oak wood before going to the small grazing field next to the house where I shot an adult before getting 2 for 1 with a 100 yard double head shot on 2 new ones, they must have just come above ground because they were very small

Nice, what’s the shooter?

The price of everything is getting ridiculous, last season I paid £200 a ton for feed wheat and used 6 ton plus 2 ton of pellets, this year I’ve been told if I’m lucky it will be £250, I’ve been told that the poults will be £4 each this year, up 40p a bird and that’s if we can get them because of this bloody bird flu, people are already cancelling partridge days, the only thing that hasn’t gone up is the land rent and that’s only because it’s privately owned, there’s no such thing as a cheap farm syndicate anymore, the whole thing is knackered, it’s going to get too a point where the members o

Venison and spinach curry, made from scratch ( nowt out of jar ) from the spices, it’s pretty much a Bhuna, very nice, spicy but not hot the missus had, chicken dippers, chips and beans ?

Back up the sheep farm on fox patrol, not a fox to be seen, just them black and white foxes so swapped rifles and shot 7 rabbits for 7 shot ( that’s very good for me) took 2 home for baiting up at the shoot ?

Well I never managed to drop a deer, I stalked into a fallow doe on one of the fields over the piggeries getting to within 200 meters of it, I wasn’t completely happy with the shot and I’m glad I didn’t take the shot as I spotted some dog walkers coming into the field from the campsite, now they are not meant to be in there, but they just think they can go where they want, by the time they had gone back into the campsite the doe had moved into the wood. Heading back to the piggeries wood I’d now lost the light and could see 3 deer along the edge of the wood through the thermal Putting the

I think we are a dying breed, I don’t know anyone who is out as much as me and you, there a couple on here like mr sausage, but no young’uns, I think life just gets in the way for most people I’ve just set off for a look about now, I got here at 4 but have just spent 45 minutes putting the old girls bird box back up and cleaning her guttering out ? every time I come there’s another job to do, you wouldn’t think she has a son just down the road

It’s just nice sometimes to be out with someone, even better if it’s someone I can pass a bit of knowledge onto, it’s just not like it used to be, when I could ring half a dozen people and everyone would say yes and they would just be happy to be out, now most of the time they say no or it’s yes, but they can’t go until a certain time and have to be back for such an such time, that’s no good to me, I’m the one doing them a favour, there’s very few young ones now that will put the effort in like we did when we were their age, I used to go out with one lad many years ago and we wouldn’t go out u

Just asked a young lad if he wants to come to the shoot this afternoon as he has asked me quite a lot to come out with me, told him we’d go about 3 have a look for a deer, then when we’d lost the light we could have a call for a fox and I’d take the .17 so he could shoot a few rabbits. He said could we go tomorrow because he is watching the rugby later, NO, would be the answer to that, what is wrong with these people, I used to spend all my time telling people no, when they were begging to come out with me, now I can’t buy a mate ?
-
Bugger, forgot about that, it looks like a trip out later this afternoon on my own because no one want to come out and play ?
-
Definitely worth the early start that ? I can’t make my mind up if to do this afternoon or early Sunday morning
-
It’s probably my favourite place I’ve got to walk around with a rifle, even though I didn’t get a shot off it was still a pleasure to be there, I really should of been there before first light, but it was a struggle getting up at half 4, never mind half 3, I think I’ll put an afternoon shift in tomorrow, because I’m very tired ? now

Well, got on another single doe, needed to move forward a few steps to clear some branches and a bloody pigeon gave me away The road noise has started now and everything seems to have headed to the cover, so I think I’ll call it a day ( morning)

6:10am up at the shoot, lovely spring morning, 6 fallow doe’s in the field at the back of the piggeries, if I’d of come the other way round I could of got on them, but they spotted me as soon as I came to the corner of the field and headed back into the piggeries wood

I think it celandine, part of the buttercup family, I only know that because the road next to mine is called celandine way ?
-
I was hoping that when I went to pick it up there was another one behind it ?

A run up to the sheep farm tonight with longshanx, everything is out in the fields now so we set off towards the bottom of the farm, as we reached the fence separating the two fields I looked around with the thermal and noticed a lamb run from the hedge back, followed by a fox, I was up on the sticks but the fox had made it to the top of the hill and although I could see it it wasn’t a safe shot, the fox then disappeared over the brow, we jumped the fence and headed up the field checking with the thermal, expecting to see it at the top, when we got there it was nowhere to be seen until longsha

The price of ammo I’d be happy if all my shooting went like that ?
