Fitting fibre optic to Scout LT
Shortstraw replied to Dawsie's topic in Catapult & Slingshot Hunting
I fitted an optic to mine, but it came off after a while, was just glued on. If you look at a thread on the first page of this catapult forum...think it’s called “Lt clips”, it has a pic of clips with optics in it specially designed for the Lt.....think it’s from a place called slingshotwarehouse on Facebook, there out of stock at moment, but if you look at the thread you’ll see a pic. They’re getting back to me when next in stock. -
I’ve got a similar pair of haix boots, a tad too small though however, the grip the soles give is superior to many other boots I’ve owned and find them superior to the alrberg army style boots which weren’t for me, didn’t give much support.

Came across these the other day.......not sure what the other side of the clips look like...only this one pic £9.99 when there back in stock at slingshot warehouse. .....think I’ll get some to try. I tried putting an optic fibre on my lt, but it came off after a while....I just glued it to the corner.

I’ve worked dogs for around 35 years, but always been quite lucky with injuries. Most of the collies and collie lurchers never had anything that needed stitching. My first dog was a whippet, a real tough stocky little fella, he tore his skin once on his chest and that was it, he must have had good skin for a whippet because I did more graft with him than any other dog I’ve owned. My last two lurchers have had I think four skin injuries in the last 8 years. If it happened more regular I would definitely be doing it myself after having someone show me the ropes, but given the they don’t too happ

Yep....it’s amazing just how quick

That’s the good thing out a catapult...take it anywhere....

I used to have loads of them, but think I got rid of lots when I moved, might have still got a few of the small a4 size shooting news. My memory is great for remembering the oddest of things, but rubbish at remembering what I want to remember.

I’ve seen just a couple of lab x whippets. One recently which was stunning, but too tall for me personally. Was a pet, definitely see the Labrador, but was too tall for whippet in my eyes, but too lightly built for greyhound also....but apparently either the sire or dam was whippet. The other two were litter mates, Sandy in colour and the size of a standard whippet, one slightly more stocky than the other, never saw them work, but the fella who kept them was ferreting mad and worked them regular, never said much about them other than they did what he wanted. Was the one in shooting n

That’s the problem I just go at it alone and know very few people.

Can you elaborate.......I could really do with a bit more knowledge in this area. Accidents tend to happen all within a couple of months or a year apart hence I’ve never gained any skills in this area. Any advice is truly welcome.

Ive heard of people using the vet type stapler or super glue, but not ever having done it Im a tad reluctant, but if I knew how I’d definitely consider it. Had a whippet years ago with a chest cut and my mother just got out her thread and needle......dog never flinched and it worked a treat. Not sure if it was just cotton or something else, but she must have taken the stitches out at some point...was many years ago.

Like a lot of you I enjoy the company of dogs when I’m out with the catapult. Took both of them out to the woods the other evening, was belting it down, but I needed to get them out. I’d only been out ten minutes when my sandy bitch yelped out about twenty yards off to my right in quite a dense bit of woodland, soon as she started to walk towards me I could see the big flap of skin on her thigh hanging down. I carried her back to the car, luckily there was no damage to the flesh. Given it was after tea the local vets was closed so I had to do 100 mile round trip to the out of hours they’v

Nice one...look lovely little things.

I can imagine.......they certainly got athletic build to them. Maybe sometime in the future I’ll have a kelpie x or maybe another spaniel x, but you can guarantee when one pops up it’s at a bad time and when you bloody want one you can’t find one. I planned on getting another in maybe 5 years, but who knows a lot can happen between now and then.

These days given I just mooch about and let the dogs just do their own thing I’m less attracted to speed.....to be fair I don’t care if they catch anything anymore......I just enjoy walking and watching the dogs work. Strange the older I’ve got the more interested I’ve got in their hunting up and less in the catching.....end of the day I just enjoy been out with the dogs and a flask of tea.

I don’t know if this really has whippet in it, but my god........

Ive had the same amount as you......from pup to the sad day they pass. With the silly dog prices I often wish I hadn’t had my spaniel lurcher spayed, but I also haven’t bred a litter of pups. Im just not willing to pay the amounts people are demanding these days. In the future I was also hoping to get a spaniel x whippet or kelpie whippet.....don’t really want more than 50% sighthound, in fact my spaniel lurcher is less than 50% sighthound. I haven’t had much look recently with skin tears...so thin skin I want to avoid. My other little lurcher tore her skin on her thigh last week, I was j

To be fair I’m same at the minute....haven’t used the occularis for a while with the rubber bungs playing up...just always fancied an orange one. I definitely think sticking to one is the best thing to do as it’s improved my accuracy rather than switching every two secs from one to another. However I have a soft spot for the occularis, it’s nice and light ( just slightly lighter than the scout lt....which surprised me) and it just fits my hand so well.. Both excellent catapults. The torque is good too, I really liked it at first, but it didn’t grow on me like the lt and occularis. The clips on

Got my first occularis used off eBay or about £20..... after about a year the plugs didn’t hold the 5.8/6.5 without slipping...so bought some more plugs for about a fiver. It’s a lovely catapult, very versatile and I find it fits my style very well. Anyway I’ve just ordered a new one from proshot as they’ve finally got them back in stock....got myself a nice bright orange one. Never been charged for postage for a plastic catapult from proshot which these days is a bonus....should be here Tuesday I reckon. Good thing about this hobby it doesn’t break the bank
-
Ive also never heard anything bad about them either, but for some reason they never appealed to me...alternatively the ‘simple shot’ scout lt and occularis which can be bought form pro shot catapults did and there both excellent catapults worth serious consideration.

Need to be quick grab a bargain
Shortstraw replied to nothernlite's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Simple....I’ll never be able to afford dogs at this price.....and if I could I wouldn’t be funding the 99% of people that put bitches through a pregnancy for their own monetary gains. I hope in the future someone on here would provide me with a pup at a working mans price. -
Just ordered another scout lt from proshot as they’re back in stock. Have you seen the thumb screws that simple shot are now selling instead of the penny screws.......proshot not got them in yet though.
-
The simple shot black...their new black which would have been on your scout lt is supposed to be one of the best lasting flat bands......certainly had a strong pull to the stuff on my lt for the thickness of the band......,but I can’t really lt comment on its longevity as the band supplied wasn’t really suitable for me. i can say all the different flat bands I’ve used have not lasted long at all. For example the roll of gzk black cold band I’ve got at the minute can last an average amount for one band set I cut then randomly snap 2 inch from the pouch after a few shots on another set. It

I’ve got the small version of this...Christ knows what size hands are needed for the large version....my hands are around a size ten in gloves and just manage the small version nicely.

Dogs n mooching with the catapult
Shortstraw replied to Shortstraw's topic in Catapult & Slingshot Hunting
Don’t think you’ll be disappointed. It’s easy to get to obsessed with dogs height etc. One of the better lurchers I had was one also one of the biggest...he caught loads of squirrels, but also had that little bit extra in the tank if needed. They can’t half bite though those squirrels as my mom found out when she tried pulling one out of the dogs mouth.
