  1. Sorry if this topic been on before. Lost my last scout from slingshot....gutted. Searching for another I found this cheap copy....sure you may have seen them on eBay. Going to take a chance on one unless anybody gives me reason not to. Sorry cant ant get link to work HDPE slingshot with rubber bands ( try that in eBay ) cheers
  2. How you find the postage cost from simpleshot? I had a scout from there a few years back ( now sadly lost ), and postage was reasonable, but I had a look on their site recently and for some reason the postage was very expensive......must have been a fault with the site as it was nearly as expensive as a catapult.
  3. If I was in your shoes.......I wouldn't bother........cracking dogs but there's better suited ones for your team
  4. Yes Dave sleight did breed them.....seems to go through phases of breeding different types.....he said he was hoping to achieve a fully coloured strain of brown lurcher! Must like brown.
  5. Can't beat some springer/ gundog in there. Bred to hunt.......yet they get so overlooked......good asset in any hunting Lurcher lines.
  6. I'm going to ask them about it when I go back......I don't think it's unreasonable to given its twice the price I would normally pay. And I know I don't have to pay the full lot, but it still rattles your cage.
  7. Right........ like me you all assumed lower, no doubt some may say it's a fair price..... At old vets I hazard a guess at £200 max. So all in inc, general anesthetic, tablets, neck collar, and check up......... Over £400. I know I probably only have to stand £100 excess.......but It really seems a bit too excessive for me.
  8. I had a relocation........and now having to use a different vets. The dogs are insured to help lessen the sting in the pocket, but for similar a couple of years back at my old vets I never really raised an eyebrow.
  9. Lurcher had a skin tear to lower chest....4 inch long.......eight stitches needed and a follow up appointment. I believe it wasn't from barb wire.....given our location on walk more likely end of a old dry branch or something. So have a guess at price.......
  10. It'll be hunting covering lots of ground compared to most lurchers that are bred these days that will just be sniffing around the nearest path.
  11. My beardie/border mix was around 7/16 greyhound. Most laid back dog at home I've ever come across. If my sister came to my house to visit with her kids he'd bugger off out of house into his kennel for some peace and quiet. Out in the field he was a natural out and out hunt and find dog......I always refer to him as nose down eyes up.....by christ he was a joy to watch. I've never owned a dog like him before where you would literally have to look away if he was close to a rabbit as they headed towards the hedgerow....yet he rarely if ever got injured.....he got tangled in a roll of barbed wire
  12. Cheers Maximus............. That's the one.....,,,, miss that forum
  13. But if I wanted a collie greyhound first cross.....no matter what anybody thought on here....I would have a good look at his stuff. From my experience as much stick as Hancock gets he does a decent job compared to a lot of lurcher breeders out there......in fact 75% of the people I've had contact with who breed lurchers are lying clueless one trip ponies....sorry, but it's true.
  14. Shame collie lurcher forum finished......there were a few dogs on there from a certain sire at hancocks..the names on the tip of my tongue.....he tended to throw rough coated pups and had a mix of border-beardie in them. I know the owners worked there dogs well and were super happy with them. I would have had one from that sire rather than a chucked together half cross collie greyhound advertised in the countryman weekly....which in my eyes isn't really tested working material.....it's a gamble. At least with the Hancock stuff when the forum was up and running you had some genuine feedback for
  15. Truth be told I've no idea. Met the sire.....big dog, lot of sighthound, an educated guess I'd say a bit of collie and lord knows what else.
  16. If I get chance I'll take a pic this weekend, been a bit lost since photobucket went.
  17. Didn't have much luck replying to your question through messages.....so I'll try here.... Mines not as busy, busy as a springer ,neither crashes cover like one, but has the drive to hunt of one. Very gentle, loving nature and extremely bright. My positive comments for this breed are solely based on the style of hunting I do which is walking while the dog hunts in the day (95%) occasionally walking at night with my torch. You will get faster chase and catch dogs. It's not interested in foxes etc which suits me just fine. If you wanted a dog to bolt to if you were doing bushing there's also
  18. They do work......I think they're for a specific type of person though...someone who appreciates watching a dog hunt rather than just chase and catch. There's better catch dogs, but it's not all about that for me.
  19. Not many about, but if you like mooching about and you want something to hunt catch and carry.....handy enjoyable dog to have about. You'll get better lamping dogs ( if we're talking half cross spaniel) but for fun daytime hunting they take some beating.
  20. Bull lurcher.....like using a sledge hammer on a pin nail.......
  21. I'd quite happily have a show whippet.....I'd just check dam n sire out.....and go for a nice strong one. There's very few whippets out there that wouldn't make half decent workers......on the other hand seen plenty of working whippets I wouldn't touch.
