  1. Was an accidental mating.........Gamekeepers springer bitch x big old lurcher (advertised as greyhound) so lurcher with unknown breeding
  2. Bet they'd make cracking fun little grafters.
  3. Very true, few and far between....but keep your eyes open in advance and you may find something. My mother just nearly bought a working cocker x whippet pup, but is now waiting till after the new year....only as a pet and probably way too small for most people, but oddities like this tempt me.
  4. I’ve always had an interest in gun dog lurchers. Been someone that just mooches about these days I like a good biddable lurcher that is a natural hunter. There was an article in shooting news/ c m weekly years ago about a fella who had a lab x whippet called topper or something, he loved it as a one for the pot dog. Anyway I was out with my two the other day and I came across an old bloke with his black Labrador, I’ve never seen such I lovely looking lab ( in my eyes ) sleek and racey with a more lively nature than most I’ve seen.......first thing I thought was I’d cross that with a nice
  5. Bird....bit off subject, did Bryn ever sire any litters?
  6. One of my best bushing dogs was a little border collie bitch. Obviously not got the speed of a terrier through thick brambles etc, but it wouldn't stop her and it was what she enjoyed. She was a very skilful little bitch.
  7. I think if she ran off after lamping when you let her out of the car it says more about you than her as a dog.
  8. My contribution........ Mine was a Hancock mix, border/ beardie......quite a few years ago. I always say he was nose down eyes up. By Christ could he hunt. His skin was amazing, he was once tangled in some barbwire, would have seriously damaged most dogs skin, but it hardly touched him. Fantastic temperament. You would close your eyes as he headed towards a hedgerow full pelt, but he never sustained an injury. He was an out and out hunt and catch dog. I never hunt fox, but he loved to. I didn't realise how good he was at the time. I don't know the exact amount of beardie in his make
  9. If it was me and I appreciate everyone is different, I wouldn't touch a patterdale for bushing....lovely things and I love the chocolate ones myself, but they're just too much of a liability around holes.t
  10. Wow,,,,,that surprised me......my whippet was a right little hard Sod......very terrier like. In fact both my whippet cross lurchers don't have the fire in the belly that little fella had.
  11. Regarding the won't be as weather hardy as a whippet with collie or bedlington in it..... I had a lovely whippet when I was a lad, he had good skin for a whippet, in fact he only tore his skin once, but that aside he was much hardier regarding weather than one of my current lurchers. She is whippet/bedlington x collie/greyhound/whippet.She is without doubt the most nesh dog I've owned, I do believe not all of the litter were like this though......I just got the short straw!
  12. So true......buying it is peanuts compared to how much vets bills cost etc.
  13. Too funny?, lost count of the different names I've had on here!
  14. Greyman.....thanks for taking the time to reply. All good advice as usual. I believe I may have been altering the way I hold the pouch intermittently not realising. I changed my grip to hammer grip just for now until I get to grips with my technique. I need to do some target practice. At the moment I'm just mooching about shooting whereas I really need to keep to a set distance to see what needs working on. Are there any particular catapults you personally prefer for ttf? 15. Yes it's official...... I am quickly becoming uk's top scoring hand striker......by Christ at last I've found something I'm good at. Recently started shooting ttf with great results at first, finding better accuracy. Using scout in left hand I'm striking the inside bottom left of the fork every now and again and occasionally my lower inner finger. Im wrapping my finger and thumb around scout just under the cup. I line bands up, keep catapult straight not angled. Im obviously intermittently doing something wrong. I know the fault is me and not the scout. Any a
  16. Just wondering for hunting with 9.5 ........do you have any idea what tubes are good?
  17. Do you buy ready made bands 3/4...7/8th or do they sell sheet band ( I only noticed made bands on their site ) and make your own? May have asked you this before, but have you been unlucky with the import charges etc?
  18. Unfortunately, my first set of three bands were from hth. I contacted hth not regarding them all splitting so quickly, but twice about making me some ttf bands and they never got back to me. In fairness both sellers bands looked top notch and done to a high standard. It's now looking like it was the band type then, orininally I thought it was maybe nipping the band near the pouch from wrapped too tightly. What theraband set up would I need to match 9.5 balls for hunting...( single bands not double )?
  19. The original bands that came with my scout I think we're latex? Seemed good resilient bands. clear opaque.
  20. I just use a scout copy that cost around £8 off eBay, but put 1mm gzk bands on them off eBay ....usually £10 for 3 band sets or you can get theraband gold bands. I use 9.5mm balls. Lots more experienced people on here than me who I'm sure will advise. The catapult is great, don't let the price put you off. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F192621126573
  21. I bought 3 gzk ready made band sets off eBay.....around a tenner. These all got splits where the bands are tied to the pouch......within no time at all. So I bought some from a different seller, only been out twice and the same thing on this band set.....unbelieveable. The band set I originally got from simpleshot for my scout lasted a really long time...I was impressed, these were however tied with string. I did make my own Theragold bands briefly a while ago, but I wasn't great at cutting the bands straight with the roller blade ( needed more practice ), they didn't split at the po
  22. It's my second scout, my first was an original.....in all fairness the copy is literally the same it just needed a bit of very light sanding on some of the seems. I've always shooted ott for the small amount of time I've had catapults. I really like the scout, but still have some curiosity about other frame styles etc. I did have a couple of other frames from simpleshot, a small black yellow thing and can't exactly remember which the other was but both didn't suit my hand ( I suffer with aching hands ). I tried ttf yesterday which I liked and found to be a little more consistent, althoug
  23. Just out of curiosity.....which worked ( scout? ) and which didn't suit. I had a couple from simpleshot.......that didn't work for me solely down to my aching hands. Shooting scout copy at moment.
