  1. I put my finger in the kits mouth too and said no. Only had to do it a few times, they soon cotton on. Now if they get excited and playful, they sometimes just nibble my fingers, and I say no, and they stop it immediately.
  2. Sounds exactly what happened to mine. Ok one minute, then dragging etc. I just sprinkled calcium supplement on its feed and it was fine 6 weeks later. The other two never ever did it, and they were on exactly the same diet
  3. One of mine had a graze too, she kept it clean and it healed in a few days
  4. well the previous version is already in this country, and it didnt get here by accident
  5. Yes its a dangerous game introducing diseases, especially if its not species locked. It can have a nasty habit of biting them in the arse
  6. Luckily my vas hob done the business too, but they drive me up the wall dragging each other back to the nest box. One of my ferrets is a small bugger, and she doesnt get left alone. Constantly getting dragged by any passing ferret, so I feed her first, so she can still get a belly full.

I would love to have ground like that to run the ferrets, you would need half a dozen people there to keep up with them hitting the nets
  8. I got two jills just over 18 months ago. I spent ages deciding on whether to get any or not, but it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I now have 9! Great little characters, the only noise they make is their claws inside the tubing, and they love playing with a plastic bowl which rattles on the concrete floor. Also when the vas hob is taking the females out of season they do squeal a little, but I only put him in for four hours.

57 in two hours, thats some feat. The ground must be alive with them.
  10. The aussie government keep releasing modified versions of it. Im sure I listened or read Craig on here mention it just released version 5.
  11. Cheers for the info. I was told the 940 was especially better for rats, as they detect the 850 far easier. Its handy as im getting my foot in the door with the ferrets, and now with the nv gear, I can offer them something else when its not suitable for running the ferrets. The horsey people love it when I turn up with the fluffy little critters, as most of them are women. They love stroking them etc, and I believe most wouldnt give me permission straight with the air rifle, but after they meet me and realise we arent psycho murderers, they are happy to do anything to protect their horses legs.
  12. Cheers. I’m gagging to go again. Hopefully the rabbits won’t wise up too quickly to the ir torch. I don’t know enough about them, but if it’s like lamping, 3 or 4 sessions and the wise up as soon as the beam is on them. Time will tell. I used a 940 pill, as I was told these are harder to detect by animals than the 850, but don’t throw out as much light.
  13. Well as ive been ferreting for the last few years, I havent even touched the air rifle or shotgun. After having a nose about on this forum and reading about nv builds, I thought I must dust off the old s200 that hasnt seen any use in 10 years. Within a few days, I ordered a camera, screen, batteries, cables, flowplast fittings, torch and a range finder. Within a couple of days, everything was built. I found my trusty simmons whitetail classic, and adjusted the parallax to suit air rifle ranges. It was soon set up, and having a walk about a local permission I ferret just to learn whats going on
  14. I got asked to clean out some rabbits over the winter, it was so called alive with them. I couldnt get over for a couple of weeks, and the owner said he hadnt seen any in the last few days which he said was odd. I ran though loads of warrens (havent got a dog) and only managed to bolt one rabbit which surprised both of us. As i emptied its bladder, it looked full of blood, so I gather thats a sign of vhd???
  15. I brought a snipped hob about 6 weeks ago, put him in with 3 jills on their first season and they all look rather fat and nesting. Hopefully its just phantoms, as the 3 jills I got with the hob all look fine. Ive got 8 jills, if the hob becomes fertile again, im in a lot of trouble!!!
  16. One of your Jill’s wore the poor hob out! After 6 hours of ferret love, I found him knackered and she was biting his neck wanting more action. It made me giggle, after all the dragging about she got for a few hours, she had the last laugh.
  17. PM sent! They got the hob snipped for £60 at the vets in Wroxham, nice to see some will still do it properly! With 8 jills, it would be a disaster for me if they tubes grew back.
  18. Well after seeing a different vet at my local practice and deciding he was a clueless idiot, (the usual vet I see who works hawks over ferrets, and is very good wasnt there) I walked out and said I will go somewhere else! I then thought I have 3 jills very much in season, and the two older ferrets that have the implant that will probably need taking out in a year, I thought I need another option. I was just browsing gumtree and saw 4 ferrets for sale only 20 miles up the road. One was a bew hoblet, with one bew, one silver and a poley jill all 2 years old. Well I didnt really want another 4 f
  19. Been in that situation and its shit, really shit. I had a little old lady next door, she went in a home and the council brought the semi bungalow off the family. Moved in a 'disabled' wanker and his mrs. She done voluntary work at a dogs home and brought the worst home with her, up to about 6 of them. Howling and barking constantly while they were out up to 5 hours a day. Also 3-4 nights a week had the grandkids round and full blast karaoke. I tried putting up sound proofing and a layer of plasterboard on top, but the walls were thin and the noise still came through. They still werent interes
  20. Most vets are against neutering / castration due to risks of cancer later in the life. The only other option is to use a ferret implant. Not cheap, but it does what it says on the tin. I had my 2 jills done, it was about £90 quid each all in, including a bit of gas to half knock them out. It should last around 2 years, and a member on here said in his two jills, it lasted 2 on one, and 3 on the other.
  21. it will all come out, it probably looks worse than it is. If they are full of twigs and bits and pieces, put them over a pole to sort them out. I have untangled thousands of yards of fishing nets twisted up and full of weed, you soon get to learn how to read a net.
  22. Yes Im all good thanks Samuria. How are you keeping? This season has flown so quickly, and with the snow on the ground you soon forget its nearing the end. Im going to collar the kits up in the next few days and give them a run before its too late. They are mad as a box of frogs! Three different ferrets. One is really boisterous and will attempt anything, the other isnt far behind, but seems to think about things before rushing in, and the one that had the issues when it was small isnt quite so big built, or so sure of herself, but shes a lovely thing and as soon as i put my hand near her, she
  23. Exactly. You have hit the nail on the heat, you could throttle them! Usually these two jills are good as gold. Half hour lay up then out. Not what everybody wants, but when you are working deep warrens its a bonus. Some of the warrens are 16ft + in the sandy soils around here.
