  1. The frontline arrived today, all looks fine apart from the writing is in French, I suppose that’s to be expected!
  2. Just though I would give people a heads up. Easyparapharmacie will send out frontline spray with no prescription needed and free postage. Just ordered a 500ml bottle for £33.05 delivered. I believe the company is in France, but the delivery said 3-5 days. Obviously different laws about animal prescriptions, but no more faffing at the vets and paying top dollar
  3. I’ve already made the circuit, but for some reason it’s not oscillating. I will have to test further
  4. The radio picked up the mk3m collars also. I wound a coil and after a couple of attempts got roughly the correct frequency. There must be a slight flaw somewhere, as the circuit isn’t pulsing, just a constant signal.
  5. It depends on the kit. I put 3 kits behind an experienced Jill last season for their first try. Two seemed to crack on, while one was nervous, came out of a hole further along with a puffed up tail and looked scared to hell
  6. Well I’ve just picked up a LW radio. They are getting thin on the ground now now everything is going digital. Time to have a play wrapping coils!
  7. Thank you very much. I actually have two mk3ms, but I’m working out calculations to make mk1 collars. Until I get some more testing equipment, Thanks to what frequency you have just told me, I can now work out the coil, cheers James
  8. Hello, does anyone know the rough frequency a LW radio picks up the mk1 ferret collars? Cheers James
  9. well the only signs i have seen of a bunny in the traps so far is bent meshes from around the peg when a fox stole the only 1 I have caught. Well if its 1 in a week, they arent looking too good. I can see them collecting dust in the garage very soon
  10. finally caught a couple of rabbits in the traps, unfortunately mr fox got there first! Luckily I pegged them down, so there was only a few bent meshes where the pegs went through the cage.
  11. Well I visited the paddocks again last night with the nv and air rifle. Another 6 in the bag, but lost another that kicked in the bushes which I couldn’t find. Nothing in the traps, so baited up with cabbage this time. Fingers crossed, but I think the air rifle with nv is the place to be. Same as last time, half of the smaller bunnies had all white marks on their livers, while the adults didn’t.
  12. Well I checked on the traps this morning. No rabbits in the traps as half expected. The bits of carrots in the traps not touched, and only a couple of the pieces outside the traps were missing. Im going to go over there with the air rifle in the dark and thin a few out to top up the ferret feed, then rebait the traps with cabbage. You have got to be in it to win it.
  13. I must admit, driving to the paddocks twice a day with a round trip of 28 mile is getting tiresome. Its not so bad when Im at work as its only a short detour, but Im on holiday at the moment. I was getting around 10 rabbits in a couple of hours with the air rifle and nv, so might stick with that. I thought I would just try and get another string to the bow. I cant ferret it as the hedges/brambles are on the side of the road on a blind bend. I will try cabbage tonight, see how that goes. The rabbits dont seem to be treating the carrot as a food source.
  14. That’s what I done. I will go back down there tonight and rebait with fresh. They would have dried out like hell today in this sun
  15. Well for the last day or so I decided to make some rabbit cage traps. So last night, excited as a small school boy, after spending hours reading up about setting and baiting, I took them up some paddocks I have permission on. I spaced them out about 8 yards apart, made sure they didnt rock, then pegged them down. Two bits of carrot behind the treadle plate, a small bit in the middle and one at the entrance. Roughly between 12-15ft from the hedgerows. I put them in three areas when there is plenty of rabbits I cant really shoot or ferret. A group of 3, and 2 lots of 4 traps set. I then put a f
  16. You bait them up with carrot etc. Rabbit then steps on the treadle plate, pulls the linkage wire out of the door and it drops shut. Really simple.
  17. Well after picking some minced chicken carcass up from the localish butchers, he asked me for some rabbits to feed his eagle owl. He didn’t want any shot ones in case of lead poisoning, even the head shot rabbits. Well it’s too hot to work the ferrets, so I’ve started making some cage traps up. I’ve heard it is either plenty or none depending on the rabbits, but you have to be in it to win it. Especially when you have paddocks 400 yards from the butchers!
  18. Yeah, I was happy. The old s200 has done me well, Ive had it nearly 20 years. Its perfect for using the night vision, as its nice and light, so your arms dont fall off when you are scanning about
  19. I hope so, they love getting the hearts and kidneys fresh every time I go. The appeal of fresh ones in far higher than the frozen ones.
  20. The young are getting a good size now, so there is plenty about. I just hope they are still there when it comes to ferreting. A lot of the young rabbits had fluke in them.
  21. Well the rabbits were getting low in the freezer to feed the ferrets, so I decided to get the batteries on charge, dust off the s200 and have a couple of hours at a local paddock. I haven’t been there for a while, as it was full of tiny little bunnies, so I thought I would let them grow a little. Well I turned up 5 mins before 10pm, so it was nice and dark already. The wind direction wasn’t the best, the forecast said a southerly wind. it was going to blow across the paddock, but it was more se, so it was blowing my smell along it slightly, but I thought I’m here now, let’s give it a cra
  22. Yeah, you need to go to the back of the mouth to make it uncomfortable. Maybe I was lucky, none of my ferrets have ever caused me to bleed. When I got my kits, I had holiday from work and handled them for hours and hours.
  23. I tried it in May, and it was a ball ache. The rabbits didn’t really want to bolt, but the ferrets enjoyed it. Warrens being full of babies made it a digging mission. The larger babies scarpered all around the warren and it was dig after dig. I also heard the ferrets getting into nests and listening to the babies squealing one after another wasn’t nice. Seemed such a waste to me, as in the Autumn, they would be good sized and you can do something with them. The time it took to clear a warren was horrendous. Warrens that would be cleared in half an hour in the winter were taking up to 3 times t
