Two doors away from me there's a dog that every time she's out she barks, she's a big lump, so she's got a nice deep bark, I've often said she probably needs more exercise to knacker her out. I don't mind the bark cos it probably gets on the muslims and the romanian gypsies nearby nerves, if it was a little yappy thing it would probably do my nut in!

I had a bullterrier, wouldn't guard the house, loved everyone especially kids. It only happened a few times but on a walk he'd see someone from over 100 yards away or more, he'd go alert, kick up his back legs and let out a growl, it happened so rarely I trusted his judgement that it was a wrong un . Once had a row with a bloke walking his racing greyhounds "worth thousands mate" in the park, I had the bullterrier back on the lead and as he came towards me he let out the lowest growl i'd ever heard off him stopped the bloke in his tracks! Once you've a bond with your dogs i'd trust them

Remember reading once about the differences in working styles between the german police GSD's and rotties. Apparently rotties were used to control cows on the move and if any got out of line there job was to put them back in their place. The police found while gsd's would see a threat from a distance and react, the rotties because of their history would be calm and react when the threat was at close quarters.

As a kid we had a rottie mix, from a pup he was a natural guard. If you came into the house for the first time he'd want to take you out, once he knew you were welcome in the house he was fine. The shopkeeper who had the rottie in the offie got his from working stock, no health problems was by his side every day for 10 years. In the long run it might be a good thing there not so popular these days.

Does no one rate the Rottweiler anymore? Used to be a working one in the off licence up the road from me. He saved the owner a few times, was a great dog. If anyone was loud in the shop he'd come up from behind the counter, plant his paws on the counter and give you a woof to let you know he was there. If you had serious bad intentions I wouldn't have fancied your chances.

I agree it's all in the training, I remember a factory in germany I used to walk past on holiday, during the day when the gates were open the 3 german shepherds would look at you. you could walk past with another dog, it was like there was an invisible line they wouldn't cross. at night when the gates were shut, if you were anywhere near the fence they'd let you know they were there. I like the mastiff/ bandog style of guarding as aussie whip says they take to it naturally, i'd go for the deterent, I haven't got the time to do pp training and I've got nothing worth nicking, exce

Couldn't believe what I heard on the news, one of those 3 girls that went to Syria to join isis, wants to come back to our country. She's already lost two kids out there and is pregnant with a third. She wants to come back here so her child has more of a chance. In my opinion you make your bed and lie in it. If she's let back in then this country has really lost the plot.my solution anyone wanting to come back here after joining isis can come back - after taking a round to the head

Bob Arum has been saying Hearn should get AJ over to the states or he will be "unappreciated", he said Fury is better known in the US. Can't see Hearn going with arums suggestion AJ should be prepared to take a pay cut to get better known!
