.17 Hornet outperforms .22 Hornet despite the .22 having more muzzle energy, and you don't need to reload. At 200yds the .17 has more energy than both the 35 and 45 grain .22 Hornet options (294ft lbs), and 1/3rd the drop. At 300yds it's still only 6.4 inches down with a 200yd zero. Try that with the .22 and you're 16.9 inches down. Personally, I wouldn't take anything over 150yds or so with either, but there are plenty of reports of people taking fox to 250yds with the .17. I know someone on here has one and previously said they love it. This is the terminal performance of the .17 Ack

Watch them birds! Chuck is better than rabbit for cubs! They always go mad for a chuck!

I bloomin' missed one ! An easy 100yarder, it was raining heavy!! I sat it out (grumpy) and just glassing the rabbits I noticed they all stood up! Another fox turned up and on just about shootable light! Good job I sat it out! U.

Care has to be used loading rimmed cartridges in a stacked magazine. Also a slight wrong bend to one or the two lips will upset feeding. Also being a Mauser the bolt claw has to pick the cartridge rim from the get go. If the rim is in front of the claw extractor there will be issues. U.

Black Powder Cartridge Reloading Info
Underdog replied to tomburras's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Separate wooded box mate only, and a foam seal around the lid. Re the loader, you don't want an amount of powder in association with anything that through moving parts can generate heat or a static electrical charge. Iirc, the instructions say no!! U :-) -

Not really, well, a fiddle. DONT PUT BLACK POWDER IN THE LEE LOADALL! Dangerous! Use a separate cup and scoop. Make your own from a cartridge. Yeah the bobbies will visit. YouTube has some videos on it. U. -
I understand the vermin control side of things, done it myself. Will again if needed. U.

Black Powder Cartridge Reloading Info

I will never go back to pyrodex, it is just to corrosive. Just ask your police for a black powder licence. Make a wooden box to hold the bottles seperatly job done. The licence is free. You can't get any simpler reloading with black powder and pyrodex. The same measure that holds your desired amount of shot use for the powder charge. Use a bit more or a bit less if you want. 777 will need weighing! It is less volume than black powder! 777 is less corrosive than black powder and pyrodex but is still hygroscopic. Old hand tools do fine or you could save hulls fired in your gun an -
Out for first light to a spot that I have been after a fox for a while. When I got to a spot over looking two large flat fields between woodland nothing was there so I thought I would go and stand by a feeder for a while. Before I got there in the half light there one was, 300yds away and through the binos looking my way, blast! I thought she had busted me so I froze! She started sniffing about again so I got behind the cattle feeder. She kept looking my way. I was on a favourite run for fox now! She slowly worked away, 400yds or so and I was not flustered, just observing when all

But loved every minute. The rabbits were to small. When I did get a good one it kicked itself down a hole I did not notice . Jess tried digging it out but got stuck at roots. U.

New Camera, Good Service From Argos.
Underdog replied to Fieldsporthunter's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
Wish I had gone that route instead of the 100d! I have always had great service from Argos over cameras and phones U. -
Cheers mate The only thing using the opens is the stock is to crowded. Set up for a scope really. I like a rifle to slide to the shoulder sigts all ready lined up so I have been shaping the cheek piece. Other wise shots are lost fumbling for the sights! U.

I enjoy my xs78 and I am familiar with the workings of them and believe the 501 is the same, except the trans port. Fancy one :-). Cheers. U.

Was it reliable that 501 mate? U.

Mate of mine had the venom viper version. I was very impressed with its workings but being an off hand shooter found it chunky. I only have small dainty hands! :-).

The 527 magazine use to have a plastic filler, it being a generic magazine. The plastic could be removed and thinned thus allowing a slightly longer cartridge to be loaded. U.

Triumphs again, a crow and a woodie in a new wood! Only waited for twenty years for this small spruce plantation with a few mature oaks towering above (read sittie trees!) to mature enough to cut a path through! Air gun heaven, well any gun really but is nice with an air gun. U.
