  1. Not all saluki x's are shy, I had a first x saluki grey pre ban than loved nothing more than teeth, it was a wee fecker but run it on the red ones and it flew into them. hated them with a passion. Got nipped whilst digging when it was a pup and raged for ever after that with them.

  3. Cheers PK , appreciated Rh , that's half the problem, the permission.
  4. Just north of Lancaster mate. Appreciate all the replies. I cut my ties with the dogging world a few years ago and the lads I did dig with have all packed in the game. Some great help on here , cheers folks.
  5. Hi guys, I know I am opening a massive can of worms here but would be great to not get into a row or sniping. I may have the opportunity to access a decent amount of digging work through some permission I had years ago. Now I was out of the digging game for a long time and picked myself up a pup this summer to get ready for next season. Now as my pup is only 7 months I don't want to lose the permission to someone else but need the ability to be able to respond to call outs . So, the thought turns to picking up an adult entered dog. Nothing world beating , just steady . Would you
  6. Getting to the time of year I miss my running dogs, maybe keep my eye out for an older pup... Saw a pet whippet x collie/grey that needed re homing at 12 months, purely from a pet home
  7. I don't have a running dog now, haven't since the ban but all of mine at the time were bred from a greyhound I owned. All retrieved rabbit live to hand but we were not running big numbers and one of the ones I bred went to someone who was. She would retrieve until she got tired when she would give a little nip before retrieving. The greyhound sire retrieved everything live, hares and teeth which in the dark , often where we weren't supposed to be made some interesting situations... The joys of youth.
  8. Thanks very much for the reply, appreciated
  9. I have been out of the game a while and have got myself a well bred pup that's now six months old . All my work was pre ban with running dogs alongside so was fairly easy to start up the pups as had older dogs and also the lurchers would catch so had carcasses, bushing etc to let the young terriers see fox. Now being out for a while I have no older dogs to show a dig or two, some carcasses etc. I've always started my pups on rats, build a bit of confidence before seeing the olders work bigger stuff . So, without access to a digging dog what would you do over the next 12 month or so wi
  10. Andy, I'm in Teesside on Monday and very interested at the asking price
  11. Cracking, those dogs know their game atb
  12. I had one I worked for five years. Got it as a two year old that refused to track. Incredibly biddable for a sight hound, retrieved live to hand but smashed foxes , lamped and worked with ferrets. Was goosed after ten or so runs or two hares but a very good dog around no the house. Came second at national high jump champs back in 85 or 86 but hated being shouted at ( I was only young then ) . Came a cropper on wire a few times but a great hunting companion
  13. Nice looking pup, I'm a sucker for a merle
  14. Sorry to hear this fella, the good ones always leave a gap
  15. Thanks Jok, now to find an early season pair of kits.
  16. My day job is a photographer. A very high ISO, 1/500th shutter speed , fast glass, F2 or faster would be my way of doing it. If you can get reasonably close, using servo focus you should be able to nail it. Don't have the lamping kit anymore but I reckon on something like a canon 7dmk2 or a D4 Nikon you would get some cracking stuff at ISO12800
  17. Had a great youth with ferrets, terriers and longdogs. Times changed and moved on and spent the last ten years without. Just picked up a terrier pup , she is now 5 months old and showing promise. I have a few farmer friends and a bit of permission sorted. However, no ferrets yet and was perhaps thinking of picking up a couple of kits to get the dog used to them and maybe a spot of end of season work. The other option is to try and get old of an adult ferret, but obviously fraught with the chance of picking up one with problems already ingrained. Kind of seems a waste to have to wait a
  18. Quality video. Mate if mine broke his nose under similar circs a few years ago.
  19. Hello all, Spent my youth and also mid twenties tackling rabbit, rat and fox with the ferrets, terriers and running dogs. Change in circumstances meant it all changed a good few years ago. Just got myself. A white fell x parson type terrier pup and the long road to getting back in the game begins. 17 weeks but cracking temperament so far, hopefully adding the ferrets soon and be back chasing the long ears next September . Loved reading the posts and hope to contribute .
