I have been popping over to the meadows most evenings and with three owls, there is quite a bit of action. They are so magical and not that shy of people, they quite often fly right past dog walkers though my closest encounters have come when tucked down is scrub or under a tree with a camo coat and hood up.

Thanks I will give it a try but they seem to pretty close if I am in the right spot which is usually away from bird watchers chatting too each other.

Barn owls can be easily squeaked in

I've had them hovering fairly close when I've done this

I've never been able to have the same success squeaking shorties in for some reason

I was calling in a fox one night and my father was standing slightly behind me and he started tapping me on the shoulder.

I asked him whats up and he told me there was a barn owl dive bombing me and coming very close to my head.

I never even heard a wing beat.

Unbelievable and it turned out there was actually a pair working together.

Regarding Short Ears, the best view I had of one was bolted out of an earth by a terrier and he only flew about 20 or 30 feet into a tree and sat watching me.
