A while back a convoy of  some 500 fucktard bikers exhibited themselves through Carlisle. All the usual suspects were on view, those with nazi helmets, the cowhorn helmets, the monkey bar handlebars and the obligatory denim on leather jackets.

Fair enough whatever turns you on. If membership of Fucktards United makes you feel safe and secure, go for it.

What got me reaching for my blood pressure tablets was the fact that some of the bikers had the job of blocking side streets so that no cars could get amongst the convoy.

I was in a side street waiting to join London road but I was prevented from doing  so by a couple of the fucktards blocking the way with their bikes.

I felt really bullied by the feckers.

I had a kind of hallucination where I confronted all 500 of them and whipped them all simultaneously, leaving concussed, bleeding and dead bodies scattered throughout London road.

But I decided on squirming in my driver's seat, clenching my knuckles and biting my bottom lip. The final agony was when the Mrs caught my body language, laughed herself silly and told me I was an old fool and needed to chill. A very unkind woman at times.

This whole new age bullshit that men should all be sharing their emotions and crying on each others shoulders is part of the emasculation of men. Think that's also the same with grafters in the workplace. I remember as a young man sat in the local working mans club and a certain individual would walk in and a few lads around the table would comment saying that the said individual was a reight grafter.

100% the same thing. It’s hard wired in men to compete with one another. Whether it’s who could lay the best brick, and the fastest, laying down good weld on price work, the farmer ploughing a straighter furrow than his neighbour, good and honest work was revered. And sport, whether it’s who’s the fastest or strongest or who can throw/kick/hit a ball the furthest, or the most accurately, all ‘invented’ through mens natural desire to compete. We all compete and so respect is given to those that excel.., just as long as it’s won fair and square.

Re_ your point about masculinity, the manosphere etc.

As a kid my hero was Harry Gregg. He was Man U' s goalie in the fifties. At the Munich disaster he twice entered the burning wreck of the plane carrying the Man U team. He managed to carry out people on each occasion. He could have legged it as far away from the plane as he could. He chose not to.

He was a friendly bloke who always had time for us kids. Brave and brilliant goalie. A terrific Irish man.

Many kids' hero these days is Wayne Rooney, a drunk and a serial shagger of escorts, even when his wife was in a maternity ward. He shouldn't be  on telly. He should be cancelled. Plenty of footballers have been cancelled for the most harmless of 'politically incorrect' jokes. For example Rodney Marsh, who made a harmless joke involving Thailand, tsunami and toon army. But Rooney remains as some sort hero because he was a great player.

Kids get poor messages these days, there are lots of slime balls in the public eye who are held up as role models, which is why boys are drawn to Tate and co. Creepiness has become normalised.

Great post. The day of the men who lived simple lives doing the simple things right safe in the knowledge their kids might be abit better off than they were. Simpler times and better men.

Harry was an Irish international and later a manager as I'm sure you know. He came to manage Carlisle United and I met him again at a club dinner. He was exactly the same, quiet, thoughtful, friendly and a  bit shy. Exactly as I remembered him in the fifties.
