Deerhound x greyhound

I prefer genuine first cross, you can almost guarantee what you’ll get.

I don’t know if Platts dogs are tested , I’ve never seen one run.

I know he bought two deerhounds off my mate that had Doxhope breeding in them.

To be honest, I’ve never heard any one say Platts dogs are great or shite, but I laugh at this “English Deerhound” nonsense, it’s just a sales pitch, lads have been using deer/grey crosses up here before I was born, The Slack’s and Doherty were winning comps with them before the saluki cross came popular.

Its all down to personal preference 👍

Cheers.

A 1st cross is going to throw all over from what ive seen all different shapes and sizes coats aint been around many litters a deerjounds so cant comment

For me The aim would be to get the best killers and breed on a family of half cross killers until its a fixed trait

my straight cross  deer x grey

We aren’t talking about saluki or collie crosses, we are talking about deer/greys and the first x throws true to type almost without exception.. Some of the dogs in those pics have been stripped

Why Ireland ?  Because Don asked if I know any contacts for Ireland . If he had asked about Saudi or Australia, I would have told him who I used 👍 Cheers.

Don’t be silly , genuine first cross deerhound greyhounds are like clones 😂You obviously haven’t seen many first crosses.

I was in Ireland and two lads came up to me and said “I bet that’s a first cross Doxhope deerhound x Greyhound” . I said how do you know, he said “ they all look the same !”.

All from different litters;

Some of the dogs in those pics have been stripped out some haven’t but they all have similar coats.

Ive seen parti-coloured dogs that were supposed to be first crosses but it always turns out there was something else in there .

The two bitches in this pic, the one on the right only had about 1/4 deer in it, the other was sold as a first cross but, but it only made around 24”, when the breeder was questioned he admitted it has “some collie “in it !

Believe me; “ if it doesn’t look like a first cross, it almost certainly isn’t “ 👍

Cheers.

So you think you breed 2 half crosses same blood together the progeny would throw all over ?

Here’s one for you mC , many years ago on here a lad put up a pic of a Saluki/greyhound for sale and said it was a first cross.

All the Daywalkers savaged him because the dog was heavily feathered and according to them, first crosses NEVER throw feathered Now I don’t know if that’s true, fair enough, of the limited number of first cross saluki/ greys I’ve seen, they were all smooth.

I actually contacted an animal genetics expert for his view, he said probably the greyhound coat gene was dominant, but that didn’t necessarily mean it couldn’t happen.

Your opinion please 👍

Cheers.

The first cross I had out of ginger Frenches luke when I went to Bacup in Lancashire to pick him up out of the litter of 9 not one pup showed any feathering though majority of the litter were a tan colour bar a black one and a black one with a white blaze and collar . The greyhound bitch was blue.
