tillylamp 1,983
Opening Christmas presents, my wife just rips the paper off, whereas I tend to open them more neatly trying to keep the paper in one bit....lol also, as a family we all use to open our presents at the same time, but ever since being with the wife's family, there way was to take it in turn to open one present at a time which never really felt right to me....anyway, what`s your/other half opening method.....lol Happy Christmas To All....
Welsh_red 5,143
My dad always got his pen knife out and cut all the tape neatly for us to open when I was young . He would then scrunch the paper up and throw it behind his seat where his collie would throw it around and roll around in it as it got bigger . He kept all the scrunched up paper to put in his fire over the coming days . In my house up until the last couple of years when kids have got older and more boring presents we would let the kids pick one present each and both open at the same time. I sit by the fire and all the rubbish gets thrown to me to burn . Mrs runs the presents and the opening like a well oiled machine and im a very very small cog in it . She will buy presents all through the year if she sees something cheap somewhere I sat last night watching rocky 3 wrapping presents she gave me while shes scribbling down on a notepad which child has got what from her treasure trove of gifts. It ended up my boy has got 3 or 4 presents less so shes off shopping tommorow to make up the numbers Both me and my mrs didn't have rich parents so christmas for us wasn't filled with lots of expensive gifts . We have always spoilt our kids with Christmas presents . We've been together for 20 years and bought each other presents for the first 5 years until my boy was born then just spent the money on the kids rather than each other .
TOMO 30,279
Kids wake me and the Mrs....then we come down stairs together to see if Santa has been then open presents one at a time each ...although me and the Mrs might only have a couple of presents each...
Greyman 33,668
Since being on the boat we tend not to do presents as space is a premium and we live by a one in one out type system so on Christmas we will all decide on a holiday and book up a nice country house or similar and have a long weekend away together think we’ll get a couple of these this year sons choice and there’s a 50lb carp in the lake lol
mitre 532
Some of the wrapping paper is very good quality and it's worth trying to reuse that but some are crap they tear with the scissors when wrapping sometimes the chip paper from the chippy is just as good but you only use that for tight fisted relations and we might do it next year
Greyman 33,668
Think wrapping Christmas presents in chip papers would quickly move you into the tight-fisted relative category seems like a downward spiral to me as opposed to the season of good will
Welsh_red 5,143
Question for you lot . How does santa work in your house ? With my kids they could ask for a small present for santa , my boy would want a football and my daughter a hair brush or something like that . The Nintendo and phone etc came from me and the mrs. Other kids in my boys school year santa brought ever single present, othe kids santa brought the biggest present

Other kids in my boys school year santa brought ever single present, othe kids santa brought the biggest present My kids are 30 and 31 , and santa still brings the presents . I never really had Christmas as a kid , but I've f***ing well made up for it since , and have always made sure that the kids get everything theyve wanted. When the kids were young . The front room would be absolutely filled with presents ( up above the window sills sometimes). I'd leave the family asleep for as long as i possibly could , and usually get them all up at about 4.30am , to see if santa had been . They'd spend a couple of hours opening presents , and once they were done , I'd go through the annual ritual of fondling and sniffing and shaking my presents, to guess what they are , then put them all down , and say ill probably just open them tomorrow. The kids would scream at me to open them until I gave in . Then we'd do my lads birthday presents and cake .his birthday is Christmas day , and we always made sure that he had two loads of presents, and none of this , it's for birthday and Christmas nonsense. My late wife used to spoil me rotten , so does my current wife , as they both knew that I had it pretty shit as a kid , and they always try to make Christmas special. These days it's mainly cards filled with cash , But my 4 year old grandson , has more presents than he can open in a day . I still get my kids up at 4.30am to see if Santa's been , but now I have to drive to there houses to do it. f**k knows what the neighbours think . December is an expensive months here , with Christmas and four birthdays , and I can blow around thirty percent of my yearly wage in a month , and I don't begrudge a penny of it . 17
The one 8,622
We wait till all the kids grandkids arrive then the Mrs is out with the bacon , fried egg or square sausage rolls then the grandkids get wired into there presents the kids are a bit more subdued with there's then the wife and i open ours i usually start reading a book i have received while the kids are playing with there toys and watching tv . Then its time to start to cooking i retire to the kitchen as its quieter there , and after ever bodies eating i help with the washing up . The grandkids gets loads but i still have a lot of stuff for each of them hidden away and the wife moans about the amount of stuff i buy for them during the year . But there only young once the kids have got a lot more unusual presents this year which i think will appeal to them
WILF 52,351
Each to their own, some lovely story’s here and I can fully appreciate them all. Personally though, I have always hated the over inflated smorgasbord of gluttony, consumerism and “once a year” love in that is Christmas ! Dont get me wrong, I like Christmas but just not all the shite that seems to go with it for lots of people. Just tell people you love them, spend time with them, get them tokens of care by way of little presents, make everyone a dinner and feed people when they pop in for a visit all year…..not just the big old blow out once a year ! My mum and her mum used to rock up Christmas morning with sacks filled with crap, kids going through it one after the other like a production line…..I f****d loathed it, no good…..I didn’t want my kids to be like that, I wanted them to appreciate things and time and people and the value of it all. So, of course, everyone thought I was a miserable b*****d but I wasn’t, I just hated the vulgarity of it all…..thankfully being the bad guy worked out fine as my kids all turned out well rounded people who seem to value the right things and couldn’t care less about bells and whistles and trinkets, they like nice things but if they ain’t got them they don’t care and when they do get them they enjoy them because it means something. Nice mature adults who know what matters and what’s just throw away shallow crap. Just be warm all time, stop and have a chat all the time, say good morning and good evening and “thank you so much” to the shop girl all the time, hold a door open, make a joke with a stranger, drop what your doing when people turn up at your house and cancel your plans so you can have a cup of tea with them instead. Seeing people who do none of this for 50 weeks of the year suddenly turn into Elf for two weeks boils my piss ! lol Merry Christmas lads ! lol 7 1
