That’s why he’s wanting it catching now cos others out the litter are doing it going off what he wrote.Let it watch a adult dog on the lamp or out ferreting so it can take it in and learn what it has to do.Like said it’s only young and you can spoiler it and ends up yapping,so that would be another one on pets4homes.Dont listen to ya mates who wants to be out now as it’s the start of the season listening to people with experience is far better

Yea im jst gonna keep trying it it will come to when it comes too an matures a bit like use have said. everything else is spot on jumping livestock recall ok. Chasing but not the picking up part another few month an hopefully she will suss that part out. Next season im hoping she will no the ropes by then

Have you got someone you can go out with thats got a dog doing the buisness?

It wouldn't hurt to go out for a few runs with your pup watching on the lead and give them individual slips as sometime as the thought of another dog being there encourages them to pick a rabbit up just simply because they want it first.

Soon has the pups caught a rabbit take it on its own from then on. Although the thought of healthy competition can be good to encourage the catch having a second dog there can knacker the retrieve.  

Also it helps if you get yourself into a position where the rabbits are heading back too you. That will also encourage the dog to pick up rabbits as they try harder when they get near you.

The idea is to let the dog know hes done good. You already caught the rabbit and you dont need more. The more fuss made the better. The dog wants to please you, let him see that he has done and he will do it again

I've seen to many youngsters ruined because they were were given to much to early because of their breeding or there litter mates were catching no dog has been ruined by taking things slowly just go at the dogs physical and mental pace as long as it keeps winning ferreting is a good starting point buddy

Get her retrieving  little dummies so she knows about grabbing stuff .

Or maybe swing a lure on a stick and string till she catches it.  When she nails it coax her back  to you.

Keep at it for a just few minutes a day -maybe for many days . It's  so much fun for the dog she won't  realise she's even  being trained. You'll be on your way to having a dog that chases,  catches and even retrieves!    All in one combined lesson. 

Once she's  carrying/ retrieving, up the weight of the dummies and lures . That way she won't be shocked by the weight and wrigglyness of the first rabbit she nails .
