🤣,how's the pup on a serious note ,only just seen the saluki thread ,looks a belter ,bold as !

He's a little terror, coming on nicely. Nearly had his first kill last week, an old or sick pigeon, missed it by inches as it took off and it flew off for a few hundred yards but was only flying about 7ft off the ground with him in pursuit, pissing myself.

An excellent game ! I can just about play, albeit very badly!

I think it was originally designed as a war strategy game.

The words “check mate” are derived from the Persian “ Shah Mort” , literally “ the king is dead”

I think it should be taught in school.

Cheers.

Can't be arsed with it, a few years ago I played our lasses brother and beat him. But then he started practicing and studying it a bit more and last time I played him he beat me every single time, "Am not playing!" If I can beat you then you are terrible. Lol

Brought a bit of a tear to my eye this,i lost somebody last year who i used to love playing chess with we would have games that went on for literally weeks, every time i visited we would take a couple of moves each then the board would be left in the corner for next time....lovely memories.

Im in the process of teaching my Grandson at the moment i love the game it was a big thing on the estates we grew up on as kids kind of brought the generations together.

Up until maybe the 90 s you could always get a game of chess in the pubs around us ,there was a real mix of abilities ,and at the time I loved it ,tried really hard to improve and learn ,but I was always considered the "special needs case " and got a bit fed up hearing platitudes like "wow you nearly had me that time "or "maybe have a few games with Hughie to build your confidence "..Hughie was blind btw .

Different times .
