I never knock anyone for what they do with their own dogs, within reason. I know Australian lads breed their dogs from a young age and when I asked why they said there is a huge rate of attrition from things like heat, snakes , boars, etc, and good dogs don’t make old bones, but I don’t think that applies here. Three, four, five, it doesn’t make a huge difference, just my opinion that at three, the dog could do with another season of work, especially big, slow maturing dogs like deerhound crosses. Cheers. Yes always best to wait when possible and as said each litter iv bred the dams older of 6 or 7 and my logic was always test test test for as long as I could but not now as said that I'm older if I was in a position again to have a bitch that I liked enough to breed from then I wouldn't be as strict you can't just wait 6 n 7 years every time can you plus then the time not knowing if the pups make it or not plus there's always the risk and worry if the anything bad happens to the bitch which you wait to line her.. 1 Quote Link to post

I would be happy with an exact clone...but of course that's not possible... I did think about a coursing type over one of them as I run a fair few over the winter local ...but I also use them at work on the ferreting jobs.... I could go to a grew....and keep something similar...or back to collie grew for the ferreting....if I did that catching anything daytime racing might be a gamble... Then charts throws a spanner in the works with his generous offer...as I have a real soft spot for a dog bred that way with how Sally was....if there was a smooth red bitch in that litter...would be very hard to turn down 1 1 Quote Link to post

Can you not get that into your head ? They are, as I’ve continually said , the fastest dogs in the world over the sprint distance. Why to you keep mentioning plough , etc. ? I’ve never mentioned them being great hunting dogs, I’ve talked about using them as a stud over a hunting type to keep or increase speed. Ive been in the game a very long time but I’ve never met anyone with such a closed mind and so breed blind ! LOL ! Cheers. 1 Quote Link to post
