jukel123 9,359
A lot of turtles over here are bought as tiny, cute pets and then released into ponds and rivers. I'm not sure of the exact species. Apparently they play havoc environmentally because they interfere with natural food chains. I've seen loads in ponds in different parts of the country. My son caught one on a salmon fly about 35 years back. I've no doubt they will set up breeding populations in the warmer South eventually. They need sustained high temperatures to breed successfully,I think for around two months? But there may have been the odd clutch, maybe?I found quite a few nests this year dug out by raccoons.
