Id guess people who like marmalade will know it’s made with citrus fruit.

A bit like calling milk, bovine milk or eggs, avian eggs.

Seems like stating the obvious or is it to distinguish between the “real thing”and imitations , like that “ersatz” coffee they had during the war ?

Or more likely, some EU bureaucrat sitting in an office in Brussels trying to justify their job.

apparently in the 70s the eu gave in to demands from the uk to allow only oranges to be marmalade  but in germany the the word for jam is marmalade and in italian it's marmalletta so to to stop the confusion were now changing it to keep in line with the eu

I know it makes little or no difference in the grand scheme of things but why are we changing our definition to fall in line with the EU ? We aren’t members, but is it just another minute step towards joining the single market and ultimately rejoining the EU ?

Americans call jam “jelly”, crisps “chips” and chips “fries”, and they speak English , (sort of 😂), maybe we should demand they fall in line with us ? 👍
