You say they can't breed because there a different genus, well here's a lion an a puma hybrid,a jaglion, both different genus but breeded successfully

Get your wacky evoloutionary goggles off its blinding you

You are mistaken, no that's not a lion & puma hybrid, this is a lion & jaguar hybrid, and by the way, both are of the same genius, panthera.

Lay off the weed and back to science class, must do better.

Just my opinion, but bringing family into arguments , by ANYONE, is an absolute no-no. Cheers.

Not judging by the amount of Fanny’s on here ?

Yes my mistake, tho I'm saying the genus does not stop cats from breeding, the different genus just seperates cats that can roar,an cats that can purr,.

So are you trying to say a male cheetah could not breed with a female puma,if some mad fecker tryed it?

I'm saying it would be highly unlikely, bordering impossible given the divergence timescale.

I'd say it's very possible there in the cat family

I think this genus crap is bullshit mate,a domestic cat successfully mates with a several cat, different genus (even tho I think it's bullshit) they produce a savannahs cat

So puma an cheetah can do the same

Bengal cats an ociat cats are a different genus an they breed successfully, the genus is porkies.

I still think a male puma could mate with female cheetah even tho different genus an produce cubs,it's very possible as it's been done already mate

No it hasn't been proven to be done, and even if in captivity, the impossible happened, they diverged that long ago it's almost certain that the offspring would be sterile.

They've  bred them  on  again and even  made 4 way crosses as far as I know

And the first example was a MELANISTIC cat!! :yahoo:

So, there could 'potentially' be a few different hybrid, non native big cats living in britain, and melanistic ones as well. Especially seeing as there is documented proof, pics etc, of people being able to purchase said cats in high market shops etc.

Nothing further, m'lord. 🙂

No, I said it makes It much more difficult to mate. Taxonomy doesn't always reflect genetics but again, it all depends on how closely they are genetically.

We are not taking about the black cat? We have been discussing the leggy thing that South Hams shared?
