Deker 3,478
Ok, first one was caught, second lists as 2016, any idea what happened to it? What is their lifespan, and obviously 2 or more needed for a breeding population! Seems there may be one or two out there, but where on earth did a figure of 5000 come from, and do we have any recent sightings? Cheers Edit...just seen your 3rd listing, that was 2018 and caught!!! Yes, just examples of the fact that there has been footage captured. Probably escapee's, but does show there is a possibility they MAY be a breeding population in the Country

Bit like the exagerated report of a pack of coyotes that was supposed to haunt Epping forest in Victorian times. It seems that a single coyote was spotted but it was someone's pet and quickly recaptured. Two supposed coyote pups claimed to have been captured in the forest were identified as jackals. The suspicion was that someone had imported a batch of fox cubs for hunting and it contained a couple of 'ringers' to make up the numbers. I've no doubt that the " Estate/wildlife management " condition on my FAC would cover a feral raccoon but l sadly doubt l'll be wearing a Davy Crockett hat any time soon . Though having said that; perhaps l should be careful what l wish for As it's illegal to sell raccoons in the UK but not totally illegal to keep them l guess any one who secretly bred a litter might be tempted to liberate any spare babies they happened to have.
