Popular Post NEWKID 23,716 Posted February 12 Popular Post Report Share Posted February 12 (edited) Been a while since me and SeanC have got out ferreting together... asked last week "what do you wanna do Sunday mate, fish or ferret"... he was up for a day with the ferrets so half 7 this morning we were off... This is a good bit of perm, you can hit sections of hedge and big banks and knock out half a dozen then move on to the next..that was the plan for today and for once it went like clock work...well after the first section produced nothing, it had me thinking a bit, youngish ferrets, would they push enough (my old faithful have all gone on now and you never give the youngsters enough when you've got the old guard about .) Well it was our fault we ignored the Sean's terrier, thought we knew best and he proved us wrong...he marked really well all day... Next bit..a big hedge, we picked a small section which always holds, broke it up with a few run nets and left the dogs to do the rest.. 3 quick rabbits and we were away Pick up and move onto the next hedge, this always holds a few, we do the middle to top section as it runs onto a garden hedge at the bottom end...I predicted 6 we had out 9... it was pretty constant, dogs caught a couple, run nets done their job and we were onto a dozen by midday... Pick up and move on.... the next hefe is a big bank through the middle of a field, its fairly steep and Sean was puffing a bit up the hill... his gammy foot was playing up, I told you mate "knock the football on the head!"...lol We stopped for a cuppa and a pasty and took in the view, had a yap, took the piss...generally enjoyed being out.. Onto the bank...the terrier was marking well again, I know there is rabbits here, its one of those fields you can't lamp very well and i see them here alot..I save it for later in the season and hit it once a year... in went the ferrets and 10 seconfs later the first one is caught, then another 2 quickly with a decent catch from the big dog (made up for knocking a couple out of the run net earlier, being over zealous!!) We steadily moved along the bank and picked another up...on 16 now and nearing the end of the bank... I had said we do 8 out if it and was banking on a 20 rabbit day... we got to the last part, a big lump under an oak tree and it went mad...2 bolted at once..hitting the long net on Sean's side, I ran up to grab one that Fergie was pinning, then another hit the run net my side... Sean limped at speed down the bank to sort it, another bolted straight away, id just sorted the long net as it hit it...4 in 1 minute and we called it a day...no lay ups, no digs, dogs and ferrets worked well, a good bit of banter and a day out with my mate...perfect... 20 rabbits in the bag... it don't happen often when you make a prediction! Oh and when I got home the Mrs went out... UTD won 2-0 and I had a beer and a bit of peace watching it.... does it get any better?? Edited February 12 by NEWKID 31 1 2 Quote Link to post
