The beach with the ramp is Shoebury common Thorpe Bay Area right next to the coast guard the pub is called The Shorehouse I believe it’s an Harvester, there’s a Mulberry Harbour out in the Estuary part of a pontoon that broke and sunk during WW2 and there’s the infamous SS Montgomery which is an American ship laden with explosives they reckon if it goes bang it will cause a Tsunami and blow out most of the windows in Essex and Kent coastal towns. East Beach is about a mile further east right opposite Shoeburyness Station it’s recently had a couple of new beach cafes built serving food and beer, years ago I used to Kitebuggy over there there’s a boom which divides East beach and the MOD testing site over at Foulness Island, which is actually longer than the pier, I used to fly across that mud on my buggy at about 45/50 mph with my arse about 2 inches off the ground.
gnasher16 31,386
Interesting, thanks for the info....no way you're going to be able to scuba dive down there either i got that wrong or my pal was pulling my leg.....interesting part of the world for me,a day trip to Southend or Canvey was about as close as we got to a holiday as little kids ! I noticed the other day The Kursal is still there, every time i go down there i expect it to be gone but i should think its listed, still seems a big waste of space though.

Being brought up in the East End like yourself the most we got to an holiday was a week in a caravan at Kings in Canvey. The Kursaal was recently discussed locally about reviving it to its former glory to much money though I reckon it’s sat there for years doing nothing.

Kings i remember having a few messy nights in that club there as a youngster !......spent a few weekends on Thorney Bay,couldnt believe that place when i saw it a few months back it looks like Beverley Hills from the sea wall they've done it right up ..... proper mobile homes, needed a keypad number just to get in....ok not quite Beverley Hills but certainly looked on the up and up. WILF 49,845
Kings ! f***ing hell…..that name bought back some memory’s ! Last time I was there we had a set to with the doormen, I fell out the door absolutely smashed out of my tree and we wound up in one of those grimey caravans with a couple of old slchapps, my abiding memory is my pal walking through the caravan with his bollocks hanging down like an old greyhound, bless his cotton sox, he was about 7 stone wet through but making a gargantuan effort on this big fat old tart with his cods swinging like a couple of bell hammers ! lol I don’t know whether to be grateful or pissed off you brought back that memory lads ! lol
