They are ok for chub😁I always use a decent carp hook, size 10/12 for pellet/bollies,size 6/4 for big lobworms/meat....

I've been experimenting this and last season on the river wye....and been using a size 4 hook on a Ronnie rig, tied on a combi hooklink( 2/3ft of korda Iq fluorocarbon in 12lb with 3" of snakebite soft braid attached next to the hook...big 26/32mm baits, small mesh bags of my pellet mix....everyone else scales down their gear and bait this time of yr...catching tiddlers😁..the few fish I've caught ,so far this season, have all been good lumps upto  13 lb ..a good fish as the official record is 14lb 10 oz.....had a fish end of last season that was a couple of ozs short....come this  winter I'm hoping they hit over the 15 lb mark again....I've had them just over 15 lb from the Wye...but that was back in 2007...and I know that that fish and a few others were moved, and dropped in the river taff- barbel there run to 20lb plus...you can catch hundreds of barbel on the Wye a season...there's folks fished it for 30 yrs and still not had a double ...I probably use 75/100 kg  of pellet per season...I can go up there just cutting the grass and I throw a few kilos in,even if I don't fish mate, after a session I will prebait a few swims...barbel are no different to carp, you get a bed of bait down and they are smashing it,no bream on my section, only carp, barbel and chub....when folks are feeding half a kilo here and there, the fish move in,clear it out and f**k off, looking for their next meal...they get the odd fish.....the big girls are always a few metres off where your fishing...from my experience 😉👍
