My first trip of the season to the mill stream .  Tackle was a cane fly rod chopped into a 7foot, five piece travel  rod and a little Dyna Flite reel with 3lb line. I wasn't  expecting  much more than a few gudgeon.

I didn't  catch any gudgeon ; my mate had a few though.

My score was a couple of eels , little rudd and perch and a welcome tench. A bit of tiddler bashing on the headwaters of the Arun.

Hard to believe that  20 miles downstream this becomes the second fastest flowing river in England !20250628_190751.jpg.354ce5fff7d231de6a431667624e2c0f.jpg

My swim was very picturesque but held more promise than monsters.

This huge perch fell to my skillfully presented bait . Actually  it grabbed a minnow  l was reeling-in. So skill didn't  really come into it🙂20250628_192831.jpg.a40dfe4c3817917c1090e49d8efb9185.jpg

My mate fishing downstream and lulled by a succession of tiddlers,  had his rod pulled-in though.20250628_192929.jpg.ca60cb12c7cc7b978ed09ca510cad71c.jpg Something bigger is there somewhere but as it came off we'll never know what🙂

All good fun. Especially as we were on a kingfisher flight path.

After Sundays disappointing river effort had a few hours tonight on the local pond for a tench ,well no tench but a handful of good sized bream on the feeder

The quest for tench continues

Try some Cockles or prawn for hook baits, small 8mm crab and mussel boillies  on a short hooklink and fish the method... although you can't beat fishing for tench on the float imo👍

If your getting bream....then step your hook baits up to 26/28 mm   👍
