THE STIFFMEISTER 17,400
When I was a kid , my nana used to buy me “worlds greatest “ or “worlds strangest “ stories . they pulp based novella type annuals or small a3 books . But based on factual stories of the past , a lot of them were on strange crytozoids such as Bigfoot , Nessie or big cats in countries etc , but I’ll never forget ever reading the first time about a guy who I’ve always loved reading about . this raised a smile today , when I seen it . I’ll definetly be reading the Werner herzog book New novel tells story of Japanese soldier Hiroo Onoda who fought WWII until 1974 | Daily Mail Online WWW.DAILYMAIL.CO.UK Japanese soldier Hiroo Onoda (pictured surrendering in 1974) was sent to Lubang in the Philippines in... What’s even more amazing is the story of the man who was tasked to find him . He was said to have delivered proof of the yeti Edited July 21, 2022 by THE STIFFMEISTER

mackem 29,851
I have been to Lubang I read about the Japanese soldiers found on the PI as a kid, there were several but onoda was the last, did he go to Brazil to farm cattle afterwards? I was always more interested in the Yamashitas gold stories when I lived there, every man and his dog had tales of the treasure.
mackem 29,851
Be interesting to see how accurate the book is, I just read the mail article, he killed 30 police and fishermen in skirmishes? I can't remember if it was the SCMP or the manila bulletin carried a story about Marcos pardoning him for murdering unarmed farmers after robbing them, some deal with the Japanese, Marcos was easily bought.
TOMO 29,110
Yeh I read about him years ago ...I found it fascinating how long they lasted out there...and not believing all attempts to get them to surrender ....didn't they get his dad in the end over there to make contact...it's a while ago since I read about him so my memory might not be 100% acurate
